Anybody know if I can bring my own poles and fish for "free" at Disney World? I can only find info on renting cane poles and fishing excursions.

Do I need a FL fishing license?

I think so, but it's expensive. IIRC, it was like $200 for a couple hours, and you have to have a guide with you on the main lake in the park. At the Ft. Wilderness Resort, I think you can play catch and release from the docks and banks for free.

Just a follow-up.

If you do not want to forgo a fishing excursion at $250 a pop (with boat and guide), Disney does allow fishing at Fort Wilderness Campground. They rent poles and provide bait (live worms) for $4 an hour. You can also use your own equipment for free in that area. You can fish away from the bathing beach, off the dock and in the canals.

They do not allow fishing off the beach at the Fort Wilderness Lodge (although I was able to sneak in an hour in the morning before the fun police showed up…nobody actually kicked me out). I am not sure if you can fish from any other area on the lake on your own.

Nobody mentioned that a FL fishing license was required

Crownline,
Did you buy your boat from pennybridge?
It looks like my old boat.
I live in Orlando and know nothing about disney.
I will try and make a few calls for you.

If you have a paid guide on a boat or fish from land or pier you do not need a fishing license.

Jeff, I bought my boat (Crownline) at a marina in Atlantic Highlands, NJ about three years ago. I used to own the Welcraft in the picture as well(sold to my father in-law). I bought that in a private sale in Oceant Gate, NJ.

FireCraker...thanks for the follow-up

If your boat has a filler cushion for the back, thats my old boat. Its the only one they ever made.
It also has a microwave installed on a one inch wide piece of plexiglass.

I guess it aint my old boat!
I enjoyed while I had it as I am sure you will too.
