Have you heard of this?

Supervisor Chris Daly, the bully boy of San Francisco City Hall, is still vowing to submit a resolution against Fleet Week in San Francisco.
Daly told the Examiner, the Blue Angels' flyovers "seem dangerous and unnecessary."
Code Pink and other anti-war groups are joining Daly.
Face it, they hate the military. They lack the gratitude and respect owed to those who sign up to keep America safe.
They hate it so much, they don't care about the $4 million Fleet Week brings to the city, as tourists flock to watch planes soar and proud ships sail through the bay.
KSFO is not a disinterested party here.
We are a proud sponsor of Fleet Week, scheduled for October 4th through 9th this year.
It gives the public a chance to salute the military, while the city looks its best.
Below you will see both Chris Daly and Gavin Newsom's contact information. Feel free to let them know your views on Fleet Week.
Be polite. Daly could use a few lessons in good manners.

Why not also copy Boxer, Feinstein and Pelosi on your emails? After all, military is a federal issue and all three of these women are bay area people too!

This kind of stuff really bugs me. Although I don't live in SF, I do go there every day to work. Seems like the general emphasis is on doing anything possible to inconvenience tourists or prevent large events. No one stops to think that SF doesn't really 'produce' anything! If tourism didn't exist the city would practically shut down. They should be bending over backwards to bring as many large events (and thus, money) into the city as is feasibile and safe to do. I just don't get their backwards logic.

Not to mention the fact that we should be happy to honor our military, even if we don't agree with the direction our leaders take them.

If they want to prevent large events, then why not start by submitting a resolution against the Gay Freedom Day Parade? It causes massive traffic jams and thereby prevents others from getting into the city including those who live there and have no interest in the event whatsoever.

Of course, banning the event would not be politically correct, now would it?

Steve, very well expressed thoughts. They seem to be undoing a lot of the things Diane Feinstein faught for when she was mayor. Remember, she is the one who saved the Cable Cars and brought them back from oblivion. That was to help save the city's tourist industry!

Who is this "they" you all are getting your panties in a bunch over? You seem to feel that one Supervisor and a few small anti-war groups means an entire major metropolitan city is rallying against the Blue Angels air show. It doesn't. It means one Supervisor and a few small anti-war groups are rallying against the Blue Angels air show. That, versus the 1 million visitors and $4,000,000 injected into the local economy each Fleet Week. Get over it. The Blue Angels ain't goin' anywhere.

You folks who reside in and around SF should be aware that within the Navy there is a strong growing interest in taking Fleet Week resources somewhere else. There have been a series of anti-military acts by the elected reps of your area. The active duty folks in USN are getting quite tired of it all. So a smart guy would be standing by for a hard ram.

Really? I guess you've been appointed to speak for everyone in the Navy then? Plus, it's not like the Navy takes a vote of the active duty personnell to see if they support participation in SF's Fleet Week.

Friend , if you can't take some good advice I suspect you better get a sand bucket and go play.

No offense pal, but the fact that you claim to know what every swingin' d*ck in the Navy is thinking don't make it so.

As a Navy veteran who has been to Fleet Week, all I can say is that I had a great time and was always treated well by everyone. I tend to think that these activists are a very small but vocal minority.

But what I can tell you from personal experience, the average person in San Francisco appreciates what we do for this country. So screw what these nut job politicians say. They in now way represent what the majority of the people think and they should just be ignored.

While Mayor, Diane Feinstein also banned the Blue Angels (just as she did being homeport to the mighty MO). She was determined we would not be a military city. So they gave her a complimentary ride in one of the Blue Angel jets and all was fine, she allowed them to give the show, just wanted her special benefits. By the way, I was standing next to her when she banned guns in SF and tossed hers into the garbage, looking down into her purse at her new .38 revolver.

LOL Toasty, I'm not a big fan of Feinstein's, but I do think she did a pretty good job as mayor of SF. And she was smart enough to recognize the political force the city's gays were becoming and worked with them instead of trying to ignore them or get rid of them. She is way smarter then Clinton!

Personally, I wouldn't care if SF lost all of it's tourist appeal because of all their radical politics and attitudes. It would serve them right.

Gays that I've met outside of SF are so much better then those weirdos...... In the suburbs they are just regular folks with a twist.......

With the budget cutbacks, it is hard to believe the city managers and politicians would walk away from 1,000,000 visitors and $4 million brought in from this event. Even with the expenses ie extra police etc. it would still be a great revenue stream for the merchants, restaurant owners and jobs created. As I see it, the Blue Angels have a pretty good safety record. The military is here to stay and we should support them reguardless of how some people may feel about the current war. Our military is important and in this small way, we can support them and show our gratitude. These soldiers do not make the wars, they are our own.

I support Fleet Week and would be very dissapointed to see this event go away.

Funny....I thought this a boating forum? What does the politics/sexual orientation of the residents of SF have to do with boating?

Seems this topic has wandered, or merely provided a soapbox for those needing an audience.
