Fleet Week

They are going to have the Americas Cup Series racing this year during Fleet Week. Seems like that will complicate the boating scene as the race course will take up much of the area.

I'm thinking og going out on Friday and hope to avoid the mad confusion.

On Friday, do the Blue Angels perform during the regular time slot?

Edit: I just looked at the Cup Race schedule and they are not racing until after the Air Show, i.e., after 4PM

I am going to Clipper Cove that weekend, I hope it's not too nuts inside and I can find a spot for anchoring, I don't care how far from the marina, but its the weekend I can go to mone of my favorite hangouts to I guess I'll take my chances. I expect to arrive about noon.

Usually the Blue Angels "practice" on Friday. It is like a dress rehearsal where everything is supposed to be just like the real thing. Weather may have an impact on time of day.

Sounds like folks will get two bangs for their buck that weekend!!!

The restricted area is "pretty much" the same as prior years. Was a great show and racing today, yesterday was also good except the Blue Angels didn't complete their third practice session because of some fog.

Fantastic show! They has some problem with the 6th plane which delayed the start of the Blue Angels. I heard they had to use a backup plane.
Which side did you watch form? We went over near Alcatraz

We anchored near Fort Mason except for Sunday when we anchored in front of Marina Greens. It was great having the AC races along with the Fleet Week shows. Less boats overall than I was expecting. We were the only boat anchored near Fort Mason on Thursday and there were only a couple there on Friday. The weekend was the usually heavy crowd, but no more than prior years.

Next year I'm goign to do the anchor thing. Too much stress motoring in the fray.

I don't think it is more than 30 ft over where Kris was, but I'm interested to know as well

It was about 20 feet in the cove between Fort Mason and Aquatic Park. Bottom is a mixture of rocks with some mud.

It was about 35 feet in front of Marina Greens with quite a bit of current. Much harder to set the hook there as the bottom is a lot of rock there. Took me a couple tries to get a good hold there. I had three other smaller boats try to anchor right above where my anchor was set when I was in front of Marina Greens. When I told them they were dropping on my chain they seemed to have no clue but did move somewhere else. One of them moved up current a few hundred feet and dropped on another larger boats rode. They eventually were tangled and the two boats were together with passengers and crew holding the boats apart and the smaller (off shore go fast type boat) ended up cutting there anchor line to get away from the larger boat. The larger boat had to untangle the Rhodes when the show was over.

I used a Nikon 70-200 2.8 for the shots of the Blue Angels and the AC races. I have a Nikon D300 that I used for those shots.

I just got (two days ago) a Nikon D600 which is a full frame DSLR. Wish I would have had it a couple weeks earlier as it seems to be quite a bit better than the D300. More noticeable improvement in low light situations but still better in good light. Can't wait to see how it does next year.
