Guys im sorry i cant find the topic. The marina left the antifreeze/non tox pink stuff in the the water heater over the winter ... now all i get from the faucet is that smell.... I flushed the system with just water for over an hr .. just letting the hot water run ... smell was gone at first but once the water sat it came back.... I know people posted on what to do but i cant find it ... any help would be appreciated...

Drain the tank (unhook lowest pipe). Refill repeat. That's why you NEVER put antifreeze in tanks, running water through it just dilutes it, it will never get rid of all of it. Remember to turn the power off to it.

Check to see if you have a water filter on your system. If you do, change the filter.

Fresh Water Maintenance

1. Prepare a chlorine solution using one gallon of water and ½ cup (4 oz) of household bleach. With tank empty, pour bleach solution into tank. Use one gallon of solution for each 5 gallons of tank capacity.
2. Complete filling of tank with fresh water. Open each faucet and drain cock until air has been released and the entire system is filled. Do not turn off the pump; it must remain on to keep the system pressurized and the solution in the lines.
3. Allow to stand for at least three hours, but no longer than 24 hours.
4. Drain through every faucet on the boat (and if you haven’t done this in a while, it’s a good idea to remove any aerators from the faucets because what’s probably going to come out will clog them). Fill the tank again with fresh water only, drain again through every facet on the boat. Repeat.
5. To get rid of any residual chlorine smell or taste, mix up a solution of on one quart white vinegar to five gallons of water and allow this solution to slosh around in the tank for sever days by boat motion.
6. Drain again through every faucet, and flush the lines again by filling the tank about ½ full and again flushing with potable water.

You need to do both of the processes that Jim and marich described. Do Jim's method first to get the pink out of the HW tank then do the bleach process that marich described to get any "bio-funk" out of your FW system.

Hey, "bio-funk" - I think that's what's infected Don Imus' brain!

Agreed - add a 3rd flush with Vodka! Really

Could be the anode inside the water heater is causing the problem once clean water is in it. Raritan anodes are available inexpensively and can be replaces easily (assuming access).
