This is turning out to be another less-than-perfect season on Great South Bay. I left Blue Point Marina at about 11:00 this morning, firguring I'd shoot over to the Robert Moses for some fishing. Just as I started to bring her up on plane I happened to look back, and saw nothing. The fog cut visability to about 1/4 mile. This was no sight og the marina entrance or the beach. Since I was alone on the boat, was going to do a bit of a run, and was planning on drifting, I decided that safety was more important than the fluke I "might" catch. It's no fun running at speed, or even drifting, worrying about what I might run into or what mmight run into me. Following my GPS, I turned around and headed back. Hopefully by tomorrow it'll clear and I'll be able to head out again. At least I know the boat and I will be around to try again tomorrow. Hy

I am sitting on back of boat righ tnow looking at bay, its more of a haze than a fog. I can still see the barrier beach though it's difficult. Fog does stink, been there done that. With rader it's a little better, but you still can't run at any sort of speed. Wind is blowing real good here, in fact it's actually kind of cool down here considering it's 90 plus on Island. The South breeze is strong and feels nice. Whitecaps in the bay right now, no boats out there to speak of. Definately not a good boating day but heck, I am on the boat, and that is what counts!

Ran in fog, 50-100yd visibilty, from Block Island to Moriches, 85nm, thankfully it was daylight. Try doing at night!!!!

Looks like a fun day to take the little boat for a ride

Fog was pretty bad last night. My kids race little Sail Boats on Wednesday nights down off of Amityville. I wanted to go by boat to get a better view, but decided against it. I opted for a view from the park at the end of Clocks instead. They had fun, but I'm glad I didn't bring the boat over.
I was down at the dock a couple of hours ago. It was hot, and humid, but the bay was looking pretty choppy.

Did you come in at Moriches inlet ? We ran a few times from Greenport or Montauk from / to Block in fog. Not fun...

Just got back a little while ago. We were down at the sailing club earlier and the wind was whipping. I side tracked to my dock to check on things before heading home, and it was whipping pretty good there too.

Forecast for tomorrow is more of the same with higher temperatures. Most of the map of the US is in red with temps in the 90s and higher. Either we're experiencing global warming or somebody really pissed of Zeus. Hy
