There is a proposal to put a food waste plant on the river. The high liklelihood would be the old Gypsum plant between Haverstraw and Pennybridge marinas. What a disaster this would be. Of course the pathalogical liar St. Lawrence states they would only do it if there is zero odor.

Ugh, that would suck, more trucks, fumes, noise and odors... We should buy Essex Island Marina and move there.

So what WOULD be an acceptable use of the closed plant?

Tear it down and create a park

No tax income from park. I dont have an answer to what would be acceptable but I know what would not. You have several marinas and restaurants in the immediate area which could be significantly affected by rotting food.

I just suggested this to a friend today Sounds like it is going to be a great deal! I have always liked it there I could live there and be happy.

I'm curious, how much tax revenue does a park provide? Oh that's right NONE!

I would have never have thought of you as a NIMBY??????

Aren't we all? Maybe some would admit it but the truth is we all want to be happy and no one wants to smell rotten food while enjoying our boats! This could be devastating to the boating community. I might consider moving out to the sound if this happens.

It's still a proposal but the town is desperate for rateables since they lost the law suits against the power plants. Haverstraw and Stony Point are in desperate shape for money and would sell out the town members in a heart beat for money. Personally I would get out of boating before I would travel to LI. to boat.

Hank you can also use the sound from New Rochelle and Greenwich CT. I agree that driving to LI would be a deal killer.....

I leave you guys alone for 5 minutes and you all are ready to quit boating! nothing is a good excuse to quit boating.

I have been toying with the idea of moving to the sound for years so for me it's just another good reason. If you go there and spend the entire weekend it's not that big a deal!

Aside from the drive, which I would not do, I am not a fan of boating on the sound. To each their own but it is very boring to me. After 10 minutes, it all looks the same.

And the Hudson doesn't? We have been boating on the Hudson for over 30 years North or South it all the same a handful of places to go. The sound has hundreds of new places to explore and visit many only a short distance to travel. I'm not running anywhere but it would certainly be an option.

. . . several decent dock options just 5 minutes South of the Bear Mt Bridge on the East side of the river . . . or just north of the TZ (Tarrytown, Wash Irv, OBCC . ...). No need to deal with 287 and White Plains traffic.

just puttin' it out there.
