I know this has been discussed before.

So I have a Shurflo Smart Sensor 5.7 Model 5900-0201.

Pump lost high pressure and makes a very loud noise when running, so something is shot and probably not worth fixing.

I called Shurflo and they say to replace it with model 4158-153-E75, which is a Aqua King Pump. The big difference besides about 5PSI lower presssure is this pump is threaded connections as opposed to the slip on conections I have.

So before I order this, anyone been down this road?

I found a RV store where I can get the 5900-0211 which is the aftermarket exact replacement of my pump but shurflo says they discontinued this pump 2 years ago and there would be no warranty on it. So that seems like a risk!
 
Check the input filter before replacing pump
 
Buy the direct replacement. Less hassle to install and by the time it goes again in 5-6 years you'll probably have sold the boat.

Plus now you have a donor pump if something needs replacement (assuming it's not the part that is already gone).
 
Issue is the direct replacement is out of warranty and these pumps are known to fail.
I have heard and read stories of pumps dying in 30 days. If that happens I am out $300.
The other pump will just require a little plumbing work which I can handle.
Worst Marine carries it for $100 more than I can get it online so I am gonna go look at it and if I can make it work, buy it online.

For that kind of bucks it is nice to have a 3 year warranty.
Plus they say the new one fixes the issues they had with the old one.

I also learned that model I have is for a RV and not a boat, boat model is ignition protected, but RV isn't. I guess because I am diesel and pump sits under salon? Not sure, but seems odd that regal put the wrong pump in. I am gonna upgrade to the marine unit.
 
I went through about 6 of those, all under warrantee, in the first year I owned my boat. I got tired of replacing them and sending them in for replacement. I got a Parmax4 and it's been working perfectly for the last 11 years.
 
Parmax4 looks to be less GPM than the one I have. Did you have the 5gpm before?
 
Another question for experts.
I see below on boat store.net a cheap pump made by seaflo. It's is 5.5 gpm and 60 psi.
Can I use this? It's just a diaphragm pump. Is there a difference between this and the shurflo pumps?
 
Cheap and fresh water pump are the wrong way to look at this... You loose fresh water, it s game over.

I woudlnt use another shurflo smart sensor, too many issue but the dumb version, with pressure switch only, is pretty good.
 
So what is the dumb version. I don't want lower pressure.
What do you think of the aqua king by shurflo?
That is what they recommend.

I only looked at the cheap one because I know these things don't last. So why go for the good models.

I want a decent pressure pump. 5gpm and 55psi.
 
I don't have the number but it is the identical pump, size, fittings, capacity and all, just not with the electronic board. I think it s called the shurflo extreme 5.7

It s often sold or listed as a wash down pump. I have one on my boat and also have one here on charmer as a back up to the primary Mach 5 120v pump.
 
I would take the current pump apart and see what is going on. You may get lucky and find some debri stuck in it. An interesting thing to keep in mind is that if you do have to replace it, Worst Marine will match any price that you find on line. You will at least save on shipping.

No, the "extreme pro blaster" is not the smart pump. It s their wash down pump but when my smart pump failed, shurflo sent me that one saying it s the dumb replacement. Indeed, identical pump, fitting, motor, etc..

Have it in front of me....
 
Ok, I see it now, it is about 15PSI lower than I have now.
I am gonna try taking it apart first. Shurflo said it sounds like my lower chamber is shot, which is replacable for about $65. I am just gonna look at it first and see because I found the Aqua King online for $200 which is 5GPM and 55PSI. Way lower than the over $300 worst marine has it for for.

Guess I have a project. I can always use the hose at the dock and the pump that I have does trickle some at anchor, but don't usually need it.

I'm using a Jabsco Flo 5.0 in my trawler refit. I have had good luck with the dual pump SureFlow in Wireless One I did rebuild it once after about 4 years of use. Now I have a spare. This pump gives me all the pressure I would ever need in the 40 Sedan Bridge.

You need to understand the relationship of GPM to pressure. Look at the specs. The Extreme Pro Blaster delivers significantly more GPM at a given pressure than your old unit. That's why I chose it for my raw water anchor wash down pump. What good does 60psi do you at .44 GPM?
