I have a Isotherm dual voltage fridge that is on the fritz. Anyone know any repair shops I can take it too. Did not realize they cost so much to replace. Want to see if it can be repaired instead of replacing. Thanks.

From the information I've goitten on this forum and others over the years, refrigerator repair is really not that complicated. Almost any appliance repair service can repair it. The parts are available for almost every repair. The most common problem is loss of coolant. Repair entaisl two or three steps. First, charging/reading valves have to be installed; they're similar to the ones on your car, but refrigerators and portable air conditioners don't come with them. That's a rather simple and inexpensive step. Next, "freon" has to be added and the leak found and fixed. Associated with that step and actually the third step if you have an older unit might be to replace the freon that's in the unit simply because the freon used in older units is banned by law and isn't available. If you are having an electrical problem, the key problem parts are the relay which switches the unit from AC to DC power snd the compressor. Replacing either part is cheaper than replacing a refrigerator. By the way, the units always use AC power. The relay just switches on a built-in inverter which converts DC to AC when underway. Inverters sometimes burn out, which would lwave the refrigerator working on shore power or generator, but not on battery power. So, contact your local appliance repairman for help. Hope this hels. Sorry about that. Fridge has electric the compressor is just not turning on it seems. Was looking to pull the fridge out and take it to some one. I did not realize these things cost as much as they did to replace. thanks.

Bookworm,
Never install fittings on a sealed system unless it's absolutely . Ur creating a leak . Clamp on fittings alway become a leak source .

Rob. True. But if a system is leaking freon, that's the only way to find and repair the leak and re-fill the system. I'm not recommending that the owner do it; I'm saying that that is what a refrigerator tech would do. Compression pin fittings can leak, but not repairing it means buying a new unit. With that said, the added information he gave indicates his problem is electrical, not refrigerant, so the point is moot. His problem could be a starter relay or it could be a bad compressor. Hopefully, it's just the relay; easy to change. Hy

Thanks for the offer of assistance. I just brought the fridge home. It seems the fan is on next to the compressor and the light but not the compressor. Any help is greatly appreciated. Rob that email is invalid could you email me at Alka2710 at optonline.net.
Thanks.

OK another update. I was able to disconnect the fan and it seems the compressor is vibrating but not getting cold. I thought it was the fan making the vibration.

Have to say Intel has great customer service. I e mailed them about my problems with the fridge and they replied within an hour. They also sent a trouble shooting guide. I have it narrowed down too the module or a hole in the system and it discharged. From what I get from them is I most likely don't have freon in the system. The compressor is running and gurgling but nothing is getting cold. Not sure if this is what caused my problem but over the winter I left some soda in the fridge which exploded. Could that have caused the compressor lines in the freezer to leak. i know coke shines up a penny.
