Frost Ban 2000

Hey guys, its close to that time again. I am in the Md / Dc / Nova Area.
1st Where can I get frost ban 2000. My Marina has it at $16.00 per bottle.
We use to have a boaters World but they went the way of the dinosaurs.
2nd is there a alternative to Frost ban 2000? Last year the local Marine repair shop said to use the Frost ban for water ...... -50. I did but worried all year about it. I see that Defender has it for $11.23 per gallon but I am thinking shipping is going to be high. Also James Town ( I think it is in Seattle)Has the 50 gallon drum for $215.00 ( about $4.30 a gallon ) What are my options?

I'm guessing you're using this for your engines?
If you're concerned about the toxicity of regular ethylene glycol antifreeze; why not use Sierra or Prestone Lo-Tox which uses propylene glycol. This is the same type glycol as used in the pink stuff. It is also used in food stuffs.

Basically, it stated: Nemco Non-Toxic propylene glycol any-freeze & coolant is formulated with non-toxic propylene glycol rather than ethylene glycol (the base used for traditional antifreeze products). Worst Marine sells its equivalent for $9.99 a gallon.

What do you use it for?
You can winterize engine with pink stuff at 3.99 a gallon.
For long term use, I would use prestone brand!
 
The -50* pink should be all that is needed in most areas. I am further north in Pa and it seldom gets down to single digits. Even if the pink was a little dilute by residual water I do not lose sleep over it. I just picked up Camco -50* pink for $1.99 a gallon, after rebate, from the local Ace Hardware store.

I am talking about using it in my motors. I have raw water cooling. I drain all the raw water then flood the engine. It just freaked me out last year. Every year before I used the frost ban 2000 to flood the motors. A Marine service center told me to use the frost ban -50 so i gave it a shot and everything was ok but like I said I worried all winter.
 
I have seen Frost Ban 2000 in many local marine stores in MD and DE for around $12.00/gallon. I use that for my engines and it can be diluted to get you to -50 protection which works out to be around $4.00/gallon.

You used -50 last year??? How did you do?

Don't waste the money on the expensive 2000 IMHO.
 
In MD you are never gonna see -50.

If you do, cracked blocks are the least of your worries.
 
I don't think you need to worry about it ever getting to -50 let alone below 0 in the MD/VA/DE areas for any sustained period. For fluids in your engines or for that matter your water systems to get anywhere close to that temperature, you would need sustained outside temperatures to be be -50 for at least 7-10 days. Unlikely in this area. Use the pink, its more that enough insurance.....
