I've really been neglecting my boat this past winter, I went to check on her yesterday. As soon as I plugged in the battery charger, the high water alarm sounded, and the bilge pumps started pumping. Upon inspection, the float switch was in ice, frozen in the on position. Underneath the ice was several inches of water.
Now that I got it all out of there, I'm worried about what may have been damaged. The 'high water line' which wsa a sheet off ice was situated so the about half of the stuffing boxes were under, probably frozen solid at one point, but a watery mix yesterday. Fish finder, and depth finder transducers had a nice ball of ice around them.
Thankfully I got down there yesterday - a couple more rain/snow storms, and the engines and trannies would have been under. Will freezing a stuffing box, or transducer, typically damage it? If so, is the damage obvious, or do I have to be nervous until I put the boat in the water?
