Discovered this problem about 3 years ago. Cindy (wife) and I would gas up the tank on the boat (31 gal.)and cruise out to a really neat bay about 3.5 miles from our slip at the marina. Just outside the markers, full power, plane-out,back off throttle just enough to keep the nose down and enjoy the ride! Two,three hours later on the return trip to the Marina the engine starts to burp and sputter, than quits running. Re-start engine no problem, starts with the key, runs for 45 seconds, burp, sputter, engine quits running agin! , Ok, re-start engine, and idle back to marina thanking God were off the lake and on land agin where we feel safe. 3 Years later and many $$$,our local wrench discovered the pick-up in the gas tank had holes in it allowing the boat to burn about 4 gallons before sucking air and not gas!!! My question: How do I, remove and repair or replace this pick-up line in the gas tank??? The repair failed last boating season and were down to 4 gallon outings agin! Almost New 1978 Model 197 SeaRay.
