i am planning on going up and anchoring right in front of tampa general hospital if any one want to raft up. i should be up in the harbor and anchor set by 1030am. i will try to moniter 16 boat name...kingfisher.

as of right now it looks like i will have a 23'key west, a 28' walkaround, and a 40' dorado rafted to me.

if anyone is unfamiar with the harbor and wants to follow me in let me know. i will be more then happy to meet you on my way in and let you follow.

I did not know you could anchor there? Thats a busy place at night right across from Jacksons on the water! You can sneak in to municipal docks on the backside of Tampa Convention Center if it gets rough, doubt it though, water is very calm in there.

we have anchored every year for 5 years. as long as you stay off to the side you are good. they do not want you to anchor in the middle.

never been rough in the harbor...never been calm on the ride home!

i expect to be a passenger on FRIVOLOUS SR 42

pdecat -- watch for us. if i get my way i will be in front of the hospital with a half dozen boats rafted up to me. just look for the little 32' boat with 15 drunks hanging off the sides!

LOL! That particular configuration/grouping will be all over the place!

We're probably going to make our way through the crowd and follow from the back of the flotilla up the channel...and make our way up river to Rick's....it just gets so congested for our tastes although rafting up early sounds like a good idea too...will have to check with the deck hands....looks like weather should be pretty good this year!!

Kingfisher-What time you making your way up the Bay in the morning??

tampa --
i should pass the skyway sometime before 9am, and hit the harbor around 10am. hopefully have the hook dropped by 1030am.

i have done this for a few years and rafting up early and watching the flotilla is much much better then bein a apart of it. you are welcome to hook up with us if you decide to venture in.

Thanks Kingfisher....will find out if the crew would rather do that and call on 16 if we decide to take you up on the offer

No doubt if we decide to be apart of the flotilla, we will be at the back of the pack to let as many crazies go by as possible...we have done this in that past and it has worked out pretty well...besides, we dont get up the river much and it is a much appreciated change of scenery!

tampa - sounds good.

if for whatever reason i do not hear your call on 16 (the radio will probably be jamming) just pull up next to us. ask for joe (me) and we will get you set up.

we should be bow to the seawall infront of the hospital.

In order to follow the flotilla into Tampa, where is a good spot to join up?

I was thinking of hanging out near the end of the pirate ship flotilla. Judging from the pictures I've seen it gets pretty crowded in that part of the bay. I want to be able to get out of there when I decide to leave. If I am up near the front I don't think I can get past the incoming crowd.

no you will have a hard time leaving if you are in the front of the crowd. if you follow it in you should be fine.

What happened? Some folks were complaining to the CG about others anchoring in front of them. Then suddenly the port captain closed the main channel to spectator boats. Was anyone ahead of the Pirate ship and inside the closed area to see what was going on???

Dang! How about some pics??? I splash on Tuesday and am just sick that I missed this. It sure sounded like a fun time.

i will post some pictures when i get them down loaded. i have a handful of them.

i was all of the way in, infront of the the new parking garage by the hospital.

the boat i could see tied off of me were a 40 dorado, 30 rampage, 42 fountian, 2 pontoon boats etc.

it was a great time.

someone must know about closing the channel????

We ended up hooking up with some neighbors on the south end of Harbor Island and had a 1st hand view of them shutting off the channel after the Jose Gaspar went through...Coast Guard cutter and a few Power Squadron & police boats stopped all traffic for about 15-20 minutes but then opened it back up...thought it was just to let the congestion up front clear....all I can say is that as we made our way up the river after the flotilla went by, it was a madhouse....definitely have to agree w/ Kingfisher...the best way to do Gasparilla is to get there early and anchor up

All in all though, it was a great day!

when we left they stopped traffic to let a freighter thru...doubt that is what you are referring to.

i wonder if it had to to with the fellow that stole the boat and the coasties had to shoot at him.

skeet -- did you get my emial friday?
