Hey Dan, you looking to buy a marina???

Mark and I have talked about it for years. Of course, we're both broke at the moment. But my buddy Charlie at Mahopac Marina is a whiz on this stuff too, and he's always looking around...

There sure are a lot of properties out there right now. I don't know if its good or bad in terms of buying one, but I do know it has to be bad for the BOATERS...

A friend of mine is looking at Charles Point Marina. He's already bought the Crystal Bay restaurant...
 
Rommer - somehow, being "invited not to return" to SPBM may have been a blessing. The stories about the club losing the barge have been confirmed to me as well...with sordid details...looks like a fun season for '07 in
"(__iceland), where you have to put up, and then SHUT UP".
Thankfully, we got situated for '07 and look forward to installing a new radar and getting out to have some fun...without the politics.
Still quite amazing that "the board of paid directors" were so anxious for me to participate in the club because of my previous 20 years with another club, and then after being ushered out, never got so much as a call. Though I do not know for sure. it probably explains why the "board of paid directors" have hesitated to voice objections. I guess they've always been afraid. They know their place.
 
Pete we look at property once in a while when it hits the market. While there is alot of it out there now it seems like most of it is priced 10 years ahead of its time. We looked at Catskill and if it wasn't for the restaraunt and having to lease the slips from the town homes (that's right they are not part of Catskill) it might be worth while. The restaraunt has no parking and being stuck in Catskill with all the low income housing I just could not do it.
I pushed like heck to get into RYB when I heard it was in trouble years ago but just couldn't come up with the cheese or the willingness of a couple of people. Sadly it went into receivership and JR's dad got it for something like 650k.
What really sucks about these places is that they have cheap taxes compared to the offering price. If you buy in at 2 million expect the town to jump all over ya for a rate increase. I think this place is paying about 40k a year already.... And what will you make after the taxes go up? Not much if anything considering labor, insurance and the like.
 
If there is no club for this year, when will they refund our club dues we paid for the 2007 season?
 
The same thing you'll get this year, nada!

By the way, if they ever re-open the restaurant, the menu will include the following "owners' specials"..."COLD SHOULDER" and "HOT TONGUE".

As for the low water, you're right, and at those prices, you lose boating time that you're paying dearly for.
Oddly, back in '74 when we started boating in Edgewater, we had MUD at low and could not move for more than a couple of hours each side of low water. Then we spent $250,000 to dredge...gained about 8' at low and then silted-in again over the next five or six years. The river is pretty single minded. Take out the mud...she sends it back! We had not even paid off the note for the dredging.

Was your boat the one that they damaged the radar dome on?

I remember having a conversation with Pete Kelly, one of the owners, about how the new manager didn't have the experience needed to operate the travel lift which is why we were not going to winter at SPBM. We had heard about several damaged boats already and we didn't want him to handle our boat. He said we haven't damaged ANY boats, I said look behind you as we were standing in the shadow of a boat with the radome severely damaged. He pretty much shut up at that point.
 
I can talk from experience about having a damaged boat at SPBM. I'm sure in the end they will fix whatever they have damaged ( at least I hope). As for the marina being sold, its going to be a long time before anything happens. Lots more has to be ironed out with the town but its nice to see someone has some interest building in Stony Point... which could only help the tax base. Besides, if SPBM closes everyone marina around us will raises prices... so keep your fingers crossed that it takes 10 plus years.
 
I agree with Bob, even if a deal is struck, it will take years to come to be. By the way, Bob please go out and in at 1/2 and low tides, this way you will dig a nice channel for me as you pass by.
