Glass stovetop removal

I have cracked my drop in glasss stove top. I am trying to get the old one out, without breaking it into little pieces. Anyone have any experience with removing their stovetop? Tips?? Dave
 
What type of glass cooktop?
If it is an Origo there are brackets under it that pull it to the counter top. Simply loosen the bolts and slide them out of the way and it should come out with very little effort. Push on the metal case from underneath it shouldn't cause any fracturing opn the glass cooktop.

Yep, if it doesn't have brackets holding from underneath but held down by caulk/sealant, I used a heat gun to gently heat glass and a flexible putty knife under stove top as I work my way around until it breaks loose. Take painters tape or similar and tape over glass area, any chipping if while removing, will be contained. (I have a new Princess stove top if you need it...but it's 220 volts.)
 
+1 with Jamie. I just removed my princess two burner. Nothing but caulk (actually may have been plumber's putty). Pushed from underneath while using a putty knife under the trim to break it loose. The harder part was removing the trim from the stove once it was out. Wish I though of heat like Jamie used. I used the knife again very slowly. Took quite a while to not scratch the surface.

Thanks for the reply's. The unit is sealed and no accsess from under the unit. I will use the heat gun and a thin blade knife to dislodge.

Dave, I removed my fridge to be able to push up on the stove from undertneath. Not sure if you have the same setup.
 
My refer is not under the stove top. I have silver ware drawers under and they are sealed. I will work on it this weekend and let folks know how it went. Thanks for the replys
