It looks like this next storm system is just about at the tropical storm level. What is that sustained winds above 39 MPH?

Geeze enough already. . . .
 
Yep, I put the bridge cover back on the boat this afternoon. Delaying my departure until Tuesday, at the earliest, probably until Wednesday for a Friday or Saturday crossing. Forecast calls for seas 4' to 6' both Tuesday and Wednesday, so far.

But, as soon as she settles, I'm ready to go.

I just paid $6.39/gallon for mid-grade gasoline at Spanish Cay. Damn! Thankfully I only needed 46 gallons (what I burned from West End/OBB to SC). Oh, and then two sandwiches (conch-burger, catch-of-the-day) at the Tiki bar at Leeward Yacht Club on GT (along with two drinks each) was $80 with the 20% tip I left. I don't know how you cruisers do it. This is a darn expensive vacation so far! Oh, but it's AWESOME! :-)

Provisioning before leaving and cooking yourself helps a lot!! Obviously you need to top off on fruits and veggies but a large cold plate freezer can pay for itself with just one or two trips!

6.39? Ouch!! Diesel is down a bit here in miami at 3.70...
 
This is why we have a freezer on the boat now. The other day the dock was closed and a neighbor could not get ice. So I dumped my icemaker into is cooler. When he came back I got some snapper filets. That works also!
 
Oh, the freezer is full. I packed it with Omaha Steaks and other goodies before we left. But it's vacation and I don't always feel like cooking! :-)

We'll probably get into eating our own food in another day or so. I want to make room in case I can get some stone crab before we leave. I found that dehydrated veggies work very well for both storing and cooking.

Dan, it looks like it's going to blow again come this weekend. I think we're going to stop at Treasure for that blow and then we'll stop by for a visit in Hope Town.
 
Have you tried the frozen veggies in the "Steam In' bags? Put them in the mocrowave and they steam right in the bag. Not bad, not bad at all!

yeah, I was looking at Passageweather and it looks to get really snotty for a few days. Just make sure the bar has plenty of cold Sands on hand.

Yeah, sure sounds like you guys are having it tough. You'll understand if I'm not being very compassionate about your difficulties..... conch burgers and adult beverages in the Bahamas... you are killing me!!! ;)
 
Bob - I know those packs. Green Giant I believe makes the smaller ones. They're great, but given the choice of stocking the freezer full of meat or veggies, I'll take the meat! The dehydrated veggies I bought aren't bad at all.

Mike - The water here makes up for any other issues. I'd rather take spray here than the poop-filled Chesapeake!

Kurt, I prefer to think of it a just muddy water. :)

I was working and living in Cocoa Beach for a year around 1999. I had a buddy living in West Palm. I'd drive to his place and the next morning we'd launch his 24' Wellcraft Costal around 7:00 AM and be checking in at West End by 9:00. Damn, I miss those weekends in the Bahamas!!
 
Not that I'm complaining, as I know what I'm getting into over here price-wise. But this just perked me up:

$.90/foot for dockage. EXCEPT that with my $35/year Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club membership it's discounted to $.75/ft. Where on the Chesapeake can one find dockage for that price? Sure, water is free, but I'm probably only spending $5/day on water.
 
Two hours? Wow. I'm lucky to make it in 8! All of this and we had to endure a 1 hour power outage...
 
Well, my friend only knew two speeds for that boat, WOT and brokedown. We experienced both on crossings.
 
When I was a kid I used to go out of Government Cut in Miami to Bimini in this little beauty. she was fully equipped with a compass. :)

So you had either 30 knots E, or 5-6 knots N. Cool. Ireland is a pretty place too :-)
 
You may get a "good blow" over there (no pun or innuendo intended) but it just plain blows here...
well, until June 22nd anyway!

Yeah, when we meet up remind me to tell you about he time we broke down in the stream.
I really believed we were going to be swimming that day.
