Hey guys, after today I'll be out of town on a week's vacation, so you won't likely hear from me until around the 28th or 29th of September. Going to "houseboat country" in central Kentucky to visit with some friends - and maybe get a houseboat ride!

You have yourself a great time and enjoy your well earned vacation.

If you are, by chance, going to Cumberland Lake you may be tempted not to come back a tall. I once lived in Louisville and used to boat at lot on Cumberland. There are coves there so quiet you can hear your heart beat.

Bob, I'll be at Green River Lake, Barren River Lake, as well as Lake Cumberland. I'll actually be staying at Green River Lake. But yes, it's a really nice area down there in the "lake country" - I was there once before, about 10 years ago on business. This time it'll be for pleasure, although I'll be spending most of my time with friends that I made through business.

Connie, quite a few years ago, I met a couple at a Boat Show who came up to me and said they were thankful that Raritan was there, that they needed to talk to someone about a problem. After a few comments, the wife really came across to me as a snotty b**ch - my first clue was that she wore her fur stole to an outdoor Boat Show where it was 80 degrees out. Plus, her general attitude to me was that I was the same as the garbage man or the guy who changed the oil in her car.

So I asked what the problem was, and the wife answered, "I'm having all sorts of problems with my head."

The perfect opening line...

I reached into my pocket, and at the same time replied, "Well my brother-in-law's a psychiatrist, I think I have his card right here."

Her husband busted up, and she went stomping off in a snit! After he stopped laughing we discussed their head problems, and I was able to give him a solution within a short period, after asking a few questions. But the look on his wife's face was priceless as she stomped off with smoke coming out of her ears!

Proud to announce that Vic is alive and well in the Bluegrass state, and he did get his houseboat ride.....even if part of it was in the rain

"Gonna be away for a week"

That's ok. At least one of us ( me ) is not entirely here anyway... :)

I'm back now; got back about dinner time Saturday night. Did some sightseeing (to include the Maker's Mark Distillery) and reacquainted myself with Lake Cumberland, as well as visited Green River Lake (where I stayed) and Barren River Lake, where we had a real nice houseboat outing.

Danny (Barren River) was the perfect host onboard his houseboat. The boat ride was actually on Barren River Lake, where Danny keeps his boat; not on Lake Cumberland. We were out for about 2 hours, then he docked it perfectly in his covered slip at the marina.

His houseboat is a Lakeview, 70 feet long x 16 foot wide, and he slid it into the slip just as pretty as you please - in a driving rain and 30+ MPH winds. Didn't hit or rub it on either side coming in, and the slip is only about 18 or 20 feet wide! And he didn't even have a drop to drink, to calm his nerves before easing it in! Just careful control of the two throttles, and it was a fait accompli! Real good job! He's a master at it - a master I say!!!

Danny, was that good enough of a testament, or do I still owe you the 75 bucks for gas?

Seriously though, he did a yeoman's job in docking that monster, in less than favorable conditions! Thanks Danny, for a very enjoyable evening.

And to top it all off, he and another friend of mine grilled steaks for us before we left.

Vic, If you're coming to the Annap. shows this yr. you might have to try the 'Chop House'a new steak house in Parole Center. Pretty good, but Lewnes' is still our best pick.

Hi Dusty,

As it stands now, I'll be there the first weekend for the Sail Show. I'll try and check out the "Chop House" while I'm there.

Vic,

You won't be there for the power show????

You know those sailboats don't use any Sans units. :)

Vic, thanks for the kind words and you have an open invitation to come visit or stay anytime you wish. Hope you had a good time on the outing, just wish the rain would have held off for us. As far as the gas money, let's call it even...LOL.....
