First I can't give a better recommendation than Rudy at East Coast Diesel. Need one surveyed or serviced on the Upper Chesapeake (from Kent Narrows or bit south up)....he is the man.

Got it surveyed and we agreed on a big difference in price, and he put in a rebuilt turbo. (in less than a week)

I knew there was some things I needed to get done and we agreed, but they were fine at the time....new primary filter which I brought and he put on for free, same for air filter, and new impeller which was working fine and oil change which I said I would do.

He was willing to take me to the Piney Point ramp on his hydraulic trailer and take a quick run to make sure everything was ok after he put in the Turbo and pressure tested the cooling system.....least expensive tow in the area....which he doesn't really do but has a very nice trailer and old beast of a Ford Diesel F350 for his own boat.

Didn't go out two minutes and the impeller exploded. He was right on it and made sure we got to the fuel dock tied up, and they knew him and didn't mind him working on it right there. I had a new one on board from boat diesel. While he put that in including removing two bolts that were mush which he pointed out at survey and drilled and tapped and put in stainless, he had his apprentice change the oil and filter....since I brought it and had it on board...."he doesn't need to sit after he gets every piece of the impeller out". (he double checked including checking the dripless shaft circuit which I hadn't thought of)

After all of that it stopped running after filling with fuel and we agreed there was so much crud in the primary Racor when we changed it why don't we replace the last chance (which he did for free on the survey)

Took me out past the Kent Narrows to spool it up....worked perfectly took it back and had a great ride home.

Two hours of labor and he discounted the tow.

Survey was $600 which only took him a couple of hours and I thought was a bit expensive (because he didn't have to travel and charges a fixed price, but that definitely is the going rate), but I really think he did me right.

He and his apprentice said......I cannot believe we used and needed every part you brought on the boat this morning........we were both pleased

Phil,

Happy to hear it all eventually worked out.

You'll have to post some photos.

Phil: Sounds like an adventue I like to ead about and not experience. Good to hear all worked out and trip home was fine. I don't remember ever reading what you bought, so let me know or if you get some pics.

I will add some this weekend. Here is from their website. It is a Judge 27ft Chesapeake Downeastern with a 210HP Cummins 6BT Turbo Diesel.
