Managed to buff out the entire hull today, non-stop all day, 9 hours. The hull is big, one nice thing is there are no vents or anything sticking out on the hull which makes it easy to buff.

Definitely a 3 Advil night tonight.

Gotta give props to Buff Magic, the stuff is killer, the hull looks almost new. It's an incredible product. COmes in a nice can, I duct taped the can to the ladder, used a 2" chip brush and did the deed.

Bottom is all done, launching on Friday.

Gotta go get drink and relax.

Jonathan

Jonathan, you need to get some sort of scaffolding set up. The biggest waste of time is having to go up and down the ladder, then move it 5 feet and do it all over again.

Is Buff Magic a wax or a cleaner/wax? I've been using Maxi-Clean by MaryKate lately, goes on easy, comes off easier. Big key to a good finish is getting the wax "off!"

The real upside is you have saved enough by D-I-Y you should be enjoying dinner at a fancy restaurant, at least CheeseCake Factory or Outback!!

Buff Magic is like a very light compound, but it works much better.

No burning the gel cote like Finesse It, no swirl marks at all, removes all the old dead wax build up, makes the gel look like new.

It's also great on metal, glass, plastic, everything, it truly is magic.

It reminds me of jewelers rouge.

The scaffold idea would be good but it don't own a scaffold and the time to set it up and take it down......

I have 3 step dock stairs that I use with a 8' ladder. I use 2 cans of Buff Magic, both setup with duct tape to the stairs and ladder. Makes the job go fast.

Going up and down is a pain but it's good exercise!

How's the new boat running?

Jonathan

Nothing like being on a first name basis with your gelcoat. Hope you can move your arms in the morning!

Great going Jonathan. We finished Freedom's hull with Colonite. All hand waxed and rubbed out. And yesterday we floated her (finally).

Yeah, my arms are fine, my back is creaking a bit.

Time for 2 more Aleve and a cup of coffee.

I've got to get back to the boat and put a coat of protection on her now.

Everything go ok Dan, no surprises?

Jonathan

Yes Jonathan so far so good. The stbd batteries are weak so it looks as though it is time to replace a couple of 8Ds.
Talk about Advil moments.
Other than that I cranked them Fri. until the oil pressure was up. Then Sat. since I had the block heaters on they spun right up.
I have to give Jeff and Alfelio credit for a very smooth launch. In spite of all the mud and rutting the boat sat still in the belts. No rushing, just a very smooth launch. Today we are going back down to check the bilge and do some more cleaning.

Rough day for me too, I sat on the boat having a few ice cold beers and smoking a cigar.

I really sucks getting the boat ready early in the season so that you can enjoy it while everyone else is busting their butts prepping!

I was admiring your boat yesterday Mike. It's got a great shine, what did you use?

I'm kinda liking C-dock. Really nice view.

Now wait just a minute Mike. We had an Ashton with some red wine on the aft deck when the chores were done. It felt darn good.

I used the Starbrite Teflon polish.

I enjoyed another cigar today, along with a couple of cold ones.

Cigar?

I thought I smelled something raw in the air today :)

FWIW I used to use teflon also but found that it streaked more easily. Wax seems to resist the streaks and clean up with a non wax removing detergent better.

Kimmi managed to relax a bit, as well:

Dan,

Why don't you get 2 group 31 and run them parallel instead of those monster 8d's. That's how my boat is set up.

Jonathan

Jonathan, that's two 8D's per side or a total of 4. To get the same amp hours I'd need 8.

Ugh. But we did two of them last year so I'm in shape (yuk). Actually this bank is easier since it's not under the sofa and less needs to be moved.
So you spin up 8-92s with a couple of 31s? I suppose you always use block heaters or have you cranked them up cold?

I have 4 stroke 660hp inline 6 Cats.

Actually, I have a parallel system on the boat that automatically combines all 4 group 31's when you start.

I just remember about that feature.

Jonathan

That certainly makes a difference. Not only that but you probably have higher compression engines since they are 4 strokes.
