Grey water tank conversion

My 2001 Chris Craft 328 has separate grey and black water tanks. The grey water tank is pretty small and fills up quickly. How difficult would it be to convert this to discharge directly into the lake? Pump outs at my marina are not cheap, and when the tank fills up it then discharges into the sump area under the cabin floor. Not very cool.

Unless there are local restrictions prohibiting it, gray water is normally discharged directly overboard. You'd combine your drain lines and plumb them to a through-hull fitting above the waterline of the boat. Or, if that isn't practical, run them to a sump with a small pump in it, and from there to a through-hull fitting above the waterline.

Most of the pumps require a 3/4" mushroom-type through-hull fitting.

Thanks, Vic. Lake Travis here in Austin does not prohibit grey water discharge. All of my marina neighbors discharge their grey. In fact they are pretty mystified as to why this boat has that set up. I do have a sump pump that moves the grey water into the separate grey water holding tank. I guess I can just plumb this out through the hull. Sounds easy enough.

There are only a few spots in the whole country that prohibit the discharge of gray water from a boat. The most notable place is Lake George, in New York State.

Yep the boat probably came from one of the few lakes where grey water discharge is prohibited or Canada where I believe they have more no grey water discharge areas. Bill
