Keep an eye on fuel supplies as you get ready to travel. Several marinas have none over here.
Refer to the explorer chart web site tab for fuel and dockage.
As well, Orchid Bay has no power now. The power companies have shut them down. Things are tight so do your research with regard to fuel and marinas before traveling.
We paid 225.00 for 44 gallons of diesel Sat..
 
We'll be paying that up here soon enough...
 
Mike hang in there. The demand for oil in Japan is dropping like a stone.

I forgot to add:

Some bars and eateries on Guana Cay will hold your credit card while you dine. In other words, you have to give your card to them while you sit at the bar. You don't get it back until you sign and leave.

We're done with Guana Cay.

Why is that an issue? I've had to that at bars here in the states from time to time, especially touristy ones, forever.
 
Bill it was the last straw.

It's never happened to us in 30 years of traveling, dining out, or other entertainment. With Orchid Bay having B.E.C. pull the power plug for lack of payment, bar keeps complaining our tab was not large enough to merit respect, poor food, unhappy servers due to poor quality food, talk by others that worked in establishments describing conditions, and a general lack of cleanliness in facilitites, well, we're done with it.

I guess you are more tolerant, and that's not a bad thing. Keep your enzimes flowing I guess..
 
Dan, keep your eyes out for fraudulent charges on that card, restaurants are the number one place CC #'s get stolen.
 
Mike we try to by examining the statements regularly. Thanks for the heads up and reminder. But I have to wonder if the likelyhood is worse in NY :D
 
Awe, crap. Something tells me I might be heading to the Keys in June instead of the Bahamas. We've been keeping any eye on ExporerCharts.com and have noticed the lack of fuel. This isn't going to be good. I'm not worried about power or water, but I do need gasoline to make it back!
 
Kurt I am watching it also. I do not intend to move for a while so as to increase our chances of not having to wait around. I am very close to canceling any trip South this year. If some positive news regarding fuel shows up we may but now it is all questionable.

And yes, the keys are looking much better for us also. Very sad.

How about that restaurant right by the sign for Nippers? The retired US Military guy owns it. He's not treating you bad too, is he?
 
No, Jerry was good as was Sally. Very decent, no b.s. at all. Had some good ribs there.

What's the cause for all the fuel outages? Is it a supplt problem or is business just so bad they they don't have the funds to refill their tanks? or is it just the price is so high they can't afford it?

Are the locals predicting this to continue on into the Summer?

Like Kurt, I may have to change my June cruise to the Keys, or at least no further then the Bimini's and Berry's

I feel so bad for you guys, can't decide on the Keys or the Bahamas...

All I have to worry about is Croton or Bowline!
 
All we know at this point is sometime around Memorial Day I'll be meeting Bob in person for the first time in Ft. Pierce. After that, the only known is that much rum will be consumed!

Well, when you throw that all in I can certainly see where you are coming from.

Another reason to head to the Exumas. :-)
 
As long as the Exumas have fuel available. That's been our plan from the start anyway.
