Gunshot Sacramento Sea Lion is recovering

We were at Pier 39 marina, docked right behind the sea lions, when the Marine Mammal Center made their first attempt at catching this guy. Glad to see they were finally successful. No one should injure or kill an innocent animal, however, I do think that current protections have allowed an over population of sea lions resulting in increased disease and starvation.

I tend to think the increasing number of sea lions in the river is a result of declining food supply along the coast. The number of young sea lions found suffering from malnutrition has increased a lot during the past few years. Salmon aren't the only coastal fish that have fallen off drastically.

I wouldn't fault sport fishermen as a group for what happened to this sea lion. After all, it was another sport fisherman who witnessed the shooting and turned the guy in.

Overpopulation of the sea lions is the problem. We need to leave Mother Nature alone and her manage the sea lions. Man and woman should step aside. Nature will always find equilibrium if left to its own devices.

Shame on the guy who shot that sea lion. I am amazed he survived long enough to finally be rescued.
