James is the owner and a very nice guy. They will be on LI for the season so if anyone is thinking about having this done, you can.

He travels to Spain and some other places overseas and performs this service on big yachts.
Very cool process and certainly costs far less than breaking down the motor to clean. It is basicly and all day process. They pump "barnacle buster" through each motor for an hour and a half. Then they do your generator and AC systems.

Buddy of mine (same boat) did this and has pictures of before and after (he uses a scope with a camera) the after pictures were amazing!!! He saw an 8 degree change in temps.

Saw the crap that came out, very cool.

I was not having any temp problems, but was concerned since I am the second owner of this boat. Oh, he also changes your impellers (you supply them) and zincs (he supplies them).

Last weekend I was running 191 to 192 temps, when I run this weekend I will post the difference if any.

By the way, 4 seasons I owned this boat, impellers were perfect!! I know have a great set of spares. :)

Excellent preventative maintenance - best done before you have problems so smart move. While your boat's p/o did some short trips to Long Island, it was docked and spent the majority of its life in fresh water, as I'm sure you know.
 
Yes, I Do know that and Sal was really good on doing the right thing with this boat. If you know him, tell him all is well and am always thinking of him.

Will do. I'm sure it comes as no surprise given your boat's condition when you bought it, but I'd watch him clean that thing over the course of a few days more than a lot of people clean their boats all season. Cheers!
 
wow, has it really been 4 seasons already with the bigger boat? Time flies
 
I flushed my raw water system last Friday and my colonoscopy went well Saturday.
 
I do this myself. It's not a bad job for a weekend warrior. I disconnect the raw water line at the output of the pump, and before it goes to the shower head on the turbo. I connect a couple of hoses via reducers to a small bilge pump in a bucket. I flush with fresh water, and then empty the bucket and fill it part way with a phosphoric based paint remover and run the pump for 1/2 an hour.

The temperature improvement is always significant.

Yup, in the scheme of things a grand is a drop in the bucket.....especially if it saves you 10 grand down the road.

Any large yacht that has to have some outside contractor do this kind of simple work needs to find a new engineer. Let alone fly someone in from overseas to do it. LOL

Plus for a quarter of that price or less you can put together your own flush bucket setup.
 
1/10 Bill. I've used my rig twice now, and this year it cost me about 20 bucks.

The trick with it is to neutralize the acid with baking soda. If you do this too fast you will have a genuine mess on your hands.
 
I use Rydlyme to flush the mains, genset and A/C lines over the years. Practically speaking the mains really do not need it in my case from what I have seen but the A/C units benefit from it every 3 - 4 years or so. Before I winterize I do flush with saltaway (or equivalent) and fresh water each year.

I flushed with salt away and actually let it sit in motor and stew in there.
Not sure if it helps or not.
After having my fresh and raw sides redone last year my goal is to keep it clean.
