The restaurant at Haverstraw is scheduled to open "this upcoming season."

OK so they won't commit to WHEN during the season but as long as the winter weather has few snow/rain days it MAY be at the start of the season.

Equipment is on site and they have been working on the foundation for the past week or so so it looks like the plans are real this time!

Perhaps the Tiki Bar may even have liquor this year!

NOOOOO - I saved so much money the past few years by not having that bar there. Especially the band nights with BYOB.

Get ready for a $18 burnt cheeseburger.

We saw Crystal at the boat show, and she stated that it will be ready for Memorial Day. Seems kind of aggresive.

There is a "concept" picture of it as the centerfold of Januarys Boating on the Hudson.

It would be nice to have a good restaurant there again like they had 9 or 10 years ago, but I have to say, I could get used to walking to my car on Friday & Saturday nights without having to dodge drunks behind the wheel, TOO LOUD motorcycles, and broken bottles all over the parking lot!

Rommer, I'm thinking of chaning my homeport to Haverstraw marina. Was up there as a kid, but it's been a while. Any advice on where I should choose a slip? Can't wait for the deep water coming from piermont.

I'll let one of the other Haverstraw people answer your question aperrino. Not that I don't want to but I'm a relatively new person there and I know others can give you a better advise.

That said, as an overview, there are in effect 3 marinas in one. South which is the largest, swimming pool, ships store, marina office, restaurant, washing machines/dryers, bathrooms/showers, game room, lots of "politics", etc... West is the smallest and really nothing there but slips. And finally the north side, quieter, bathrooms/showers, ice, fuel dock, service area and virtually NO transients.

So you have your choice of what you are looking for. FWIW we summered at the north side and winter in the water at the south side.

Thanks for the info. I have two little ones, so I'll prob go to the south docks or the summer. Going to head up there one of these weekends to get the paperwork taken care of.

I am on the south docks and have 2 little ones. They are fine but Politics are around here and there. It is a good marina and plenty deep and calm. I am on Green dock. There were plenty of slips available? What size boat?

Last year there were hardly any transients at all.

While on the Haverstraw Topic- How early is good to plan a few days there? I stay over every year but usually in July & August. I'm thinking of May or Mid June?

Come all the way up to RYB or Kgn. town dockss. There are more restaurants and we have a pool here at ryb.

We were talking to Bob Wheeler at the boat show and although the new restaurant may be physically ready early in the season, they don't have an operator to run it yet.

Ahoy Dan, details we need more details? Big slips/dock space so I can fit? RYB=? KGN=? I'm always looking to explore a new destination?

Haverstraw ususally has slips available. RYB = Rondout Yacht Basin, which is across the creek from the town of Kingston. They have enough room for some really big boats along the floating dock. It's a great place, very boater friendly. The creek is a good place to dink, go down to the end and look for Pete.

Yes, just make sure you have a reservation Art. They have had 100+ up here, and you should fit in fine. It's the Rondout Yacht Basin on the Rondout Creek. A much better hang than Haverstraw or Catskill IMHO. While Catskill has a couple of nice marinas, walking through town to the only restaurant is no picnic.

Ok guys sound like fun. Roundout Yacht Basin is about how many N. Miles from Haverstraw?

http://www.rondoutyachtbasin.com/ Make sure you have charts for the area, athough, for the most part the river is deep, there are some shallows. The lighthouse just south of the creek MUST be kept to port, there is NO WATER between it and the western shore.

A fast look makes Haverstarw about 58 miles from me. Roundout looks to be 112 miles, about twice the ride. If I catch the tide right it's all downhill :) I'll start doing some checking as the web site looks inviting. Thanks

PS. when is the weather there warm enough to enjoy the (buuuuur) Pool?

Art, remember you have tide and current. Boating on the Hudson has tide charts that will help you time it. The pool is not deep so it warms up pretty quickly.

Kingston is terrific, but don't rule out a visit to Catskill - the town is enjoying a major renaissance. The village is right around the corner from the Catskill Marina which is peaceful and park-like, very transient-friendly with nice people, a pool and good, clean facilities. Town's a longer walk from Hop-O-Nose Marina, which has a generally well-liked restaurant. There are now a variety of good eats in town, from the terrific Italian spot to Sushi to Thai among traditional fare - even a cool coffee joint. It's worth a try.

Rob, we have a 30 ft maxum. I gave a call up there and they said i would have my choice of slips and tie up. Hoping it isn't bs.

As far as kingston, it was our best trip last year. Everyone at the town docks were great. We spent a lot of time in awe of the 172 ft battered bull tied up just before the bridge. Made the rip van winkle look like a dink. here is the link
