I'll be staying at Haverstaw this weekend 8/17 Friday afternoon leaving Sunday. If you Pirates are nearby say hi. Both Boating Bob & Hogan have told me me that torches in Newbugh is a good place to eat & I can dock there - so I'll give it a try? A few Other suggestions were Babes, Parrot Bay, Ship to Shore & Mariners. I'm full already. So many places to eat so little time. I'll do my best. See you soon...

I'll third Torches just keep in mind it's roughly 45 minutes north of Haverstraw by boat. Babes & Parrot Bay will require a car or cab to reach from the marina unless you like long walks.

Aren't Ship to Shore & Mariners up in Kingston? (2+ hours north of Haverstraw)

Your best bet is to head over to one of the many raftups we are having across the river in Croton this weekend. We plan on dropping one of the first hooks Friday afternoon.

I have some family meeting us at Haverstraw Saturday for a ride further up river. I'd guess about 30 more miles or so would make a nice cruise? Anything nice to see going North? I've only been as Far as the Newburgh/Beacon Bridge on my last cruise.

Nothing much more there Kingston is nice but that is about 40+ miles north.

The area of the Hudson north of Haverstraw up to Newburgh is what some consider the most beautiful part of the river. Lots of history along the way.

Rommer, You're sure right about that. I really enjoy the scenery on the trip. It's one of the nicest views to see while on a cruise locally. It sure is a lot better then looking at open water for a few hours.

If you come all the way to kgn, stop in at Rondout Yacht Basin and say hi. Ship to Shore is the best dine on the creek, but we have had excellent lunches at the Steel house, and Rositas does a good job also.

I think that Catskill Creek is actually kind of nice. Also the area around Hyde Park and a little north is nice as well. We have a small boat so anything south of say Indian Point on the weekend gets us fairly well beat up.

I should be by Croton saturday afternoon. The 391 is still named "Triple Play". We shoudl be there early afternoon, coming from the north.

NW winds 10 - 20 MPH for Saturday - Croton will be rockin' & rollin'!

Great. No going out this weekend. Prego wife needs it calm and smooth out there.

I should be down on the docks tonight though.

Wow, Haverstraw had 30 knot winds Saturday. Put me in a slip I needed KY Jelly to get into(40 footer was away)I was 20 extra feet to deal with. Once in on Friday with those winds I stayed right where I was on Saturday. As the only boater with my group I felt it unsafe to venture out as pulling in would be a real chore alone. I'll bet I would have banged into a few boats just trying to untie the lines. Some days, if you have a choice, you have to do what you think is best. Still had a great trip but I complained about the slip they gave me.

At least you where in a slip Art. We went across the river Friday night and spent the night on the hook with 2 other boats. Was not pretty!

A variation of what someone once said...it is better to be in your slip wishing you were out on the water, than being on the water and wishing you were back in your slip.

JohnH, my thoughts exactly. No way back into my slip with those winds on Saturday without bouncing off a few boats. Not with the slip they gave me.

Rommer, you were on the hook? I feel your pain. I was tied well but I had to go back out and tie 4 extra lines or I was feeling like a milk shake even in my slip.

Yup, we were out with Robyns Nest and another boat. Was calm as could be when we went out and the forecasts were good. Sure changed quick!

Really reinforces the need to use proper anchoring techniques like 10 to 1 scope. Just got finished adding a second stern line to go with the 2 bow anchors and WHAM! 40+mph winds....

BTW, any you guys see that 90' Vitech boat at Haverstraw? I looked at it but they must be joking? $4.4 mil for that boat & it does 16 knots. The inside looks like a Gaudy/Trump overdone casino?

Was that the "Seven Js" (blue hull) next to "On Your Mark?"
If I had to choose, I would take "On Your Mark"

It's the On Your Mark boat. Sort of a pale green hull?
