Any other Californian owners out there that have problems with the chain stacking up in the anchor locker and blocking the hawse pipe?

The hawse pipe on our 48 Californian runs from the deck down behind a cabinet in the v berth to an anchor locker/tray located beneath the floor in the forward stateroom. When retrieving the anchor, the pipe will get blocked with about 35 feet of chain still out. There doesn't seem to be any way to increase the angle on the locker due to the end of the hawse pipe.

Has anyone else experienced this and come up with a workable solution?

Hey Dave, Ya think cutting or welding an extension would help? It's SS?

How about making a bigger tube? If I ain't got the parts, I can probably make 'em.

99% of the time the problem is due to the locker not being tall enough Chain piles up une the hawse pipe until it reaches the top and jams. Usuay there isn't much you can do but push it aside once it jams.

Often it s because the windlass is too far forward (not to clutter the deck) and chain piles too far into the vee

I'll try to get some pictures. It isn't a conventional set-up where the chain comes out of the pipe vertically. The pipe discharges onto a sloped shelf and the chain is supposed to slide down, but usually piles up and then jams the pipe. I'll try to take pics this week and post them.
