Anyone been to either one and where are they in relation to each other? is Hawthorne 'across' the river from town?

recommendations for which slip to request and recommendations for mid $ restaurants in the area, please?

thanks!

Pickering Wharf Marina is right off Congress St., Hawthorne Cove Marina is on White St. As a vessel goes, Hawthorne Cove Marina is closer to open ocean and the end of the Water Safety Zone. Meaning...to slip at Pickering Wharf means a longer cruise in the no-wake zone.

I have a mooring about 300 yards from Hawthorne Cove Marina. Inner Salem Harbor is very protected from Winter Island on (as heading to shore).

Pickering Wharf will be more convenient in terms of easy walking to numerous restaurants and things to do in Salem. Avoid the restaurant called Finz....it's way overpriced and the food is not good. The setting is right on Picking Wharf and of course a great place for a drink. My usual stop after a day on the boat is Salem Beer works. Great Turkey or Steak tips and great micro brew.

thanks, Matt!

Micro beer place a definite! any other rec's for dining?

how far a walk from Hawthorne to the 'downtown'?

thanks!

Salem Beer Works is my favorite. Pickering Wharf is right in the heart of downtown, Hawthorne Cove is about a 5-10 minute walk to downtown.

I think this came up a couple years ago, but I forgot the answer. What's a "steak tip"? What's it the tip of? I think it must be a local MA term. I grew up in RI, and I don't remember having that term there, even though RI isn't too far away from MA.

Thanks.

Usually beaks and hoofs....ha ha! No it's actually regular meat (steak, etc.) chopped up and cooked as small bits of meat.

Defboat, I replyed to your e-mail but it came back as undeliverable. Like the others said, Pickering is more convienent. My girls - now 10 & 12, liked to look for witches, find ice cream shops and walk around the stores and look at the old grave stones.
