A friend just bought a 1982, 35' Trojan. Other than some cosmetic updating, the boat is in very nice condition.

We are having a hell of a time identifying the head. I've never seen anything like it and cannot figure out how it works. Any takers?

Believe it is a Sealand (makers of Vacuflush) product that is directly connected to holding tank.

Yes that is a Sealand traveler. I have 2 of them in our '87. They are great heads if you look past the 10 gallon capacity. I have messed around a lot with mine if your friend has any questions

Is "messed around alot" really the appropriate verbage on this topic??? :-)

I downloaded the manual. We'll probably have a ton of questions.

First one is, is it possible to connect it to a holding tank or a lectro-san. This is his liveaboard.

I have read where people have done it. You install a regular holding tank and deck pump out and then you have to plum your macerator to transfer from the 10 gallon Sealand tank to the holding tank. I have room in front of my starboard engine to do this but I really don’t want to give up that space so I live with frequent trips to the pump out dock.

Good luck

David, one thing I noticed in your pictures is that head looks like it still has the original (metal) 10 gallon holding tank. The newer ones are a one piece composite tank and both of mine have been replaced, one before we bought the boat and I did the other one because it started to leak.

Workings on these are simple, remove the water line from the back of the bowl, and loosen the big hose clamp and the whole bowl lifts off the tank. This exposes a pair of large gaskets which will require replacing every 3 – 4 years. If the bowl doesn’t hold water replacing these gaskets is the fix.

I have also found not getting everything out of the holding tank (just like regular holding tank) does happen and some build up will result. All you have to do is run a garden hose to the head, depress the lever which opens the flushing ball and spray water in while you are pumping out. This loosens up everything and all is sucked out.

I’m sure that sounds disgusting but it works :)
Good luck

That head looks simple and functional thank God for my freshwater Raritan ME!

David, sorry to say, the answer to both questions is "no." It is basically an RV-type drop-down toilet, sitting on top of its own holding tank. It has no pump on the discharge side and thus, can't be connected to a Lectra/San or to a remote-mounted holding tank.
