Head upgrade

No doubt it is noisy. What do you currently do when someone has to crap? The electric unit should not have a problem grinding up the logs as they pass thru unless someone has logs of steel; there is a macerator on the end of it.

That Jabsco "chopper" will take the logs down, but it has a nasty habit of recirculating them for a while. So flushing takes longer and the holding tank fills up faster.

Bill - Ah, the men's room. I guess that was an acceptable test. But the ladies room would be better :-)

Bill and others: American Standard is a gravity flush toilet, just like you have at home. It has larger passageways in it, and operates totally different than a marine toilet. Marine toilets unly use 1 1/2" I.D. or in some cases, 1" I.D. hoses. Believe me, a condom filled with some sort of paste would never pass through a marine toilet. Rubber is a no-no for any marine toilet, as it is almost impossible to shred.

What is used, are large, not-quite-ripe bananas, both peeled, and in some cases, unpeeled. Works very well, and smells nice, too! We usually use 2 or 3 at a time, to see if we can clog it.

Also, a concoction is made up of dry dog food chunks, vegetable soup (gotta have that corn in it... :D) and something else, that escapes my memory at the moment. It is mixed up in the consistency of a thick mucky mess and tossed into the toilet.

Kurt - thanks for the feedback. I'm wondering where the connection is for the sanitation hose on the Raritan? My current setup has the sanitation hose coming right out of the back of base/electric conversion assembly and through the bulkhead. Also, where is the connection for the freshwater? Just trying to get my ducks in a row befor placing an order. And does it use 1-1/2" sanitation hose? Do you have a picture of your installation? Thanks again!

Twenty piece box of Popeye's chicken (spicy), 1 Quart of Instant Mashed Potatoes and gravy, large order of Chili Cheese Fries, 10 to 12 Jalapeno Peppers, Couple of Bags of Zapp's Craw Gator Chips, 12 Pack or two of PBR, all ingested and digested by my Cousin Eddy, hand him the sports page-------that's my test platform. My W/C "Skipper" with the 4" discharge, takes that licking and keeps on Kicking.

I can't find my old post from this same forum that shows how I changed out the heads, but it was really pretty darn easy. The discharge of the Marine Elegance is out the back (it can be flush-mounted, depending on the installation). I remember buying a 90-degree elbow to make it work with my existing plumbing. Freshwater is standard "garden-hose" size, so that's exactly what I ran to it. I also cut a piece of the same white garden hose to run the wiring through. I just posted a picture for you on the Facebook group which I think you're a member of? I can take more if you need.

Do we have a facebook group?

Ernesto, if you get one of these I would love to check it out before it goes in your boat.

I have been thinking of changing my head for one of these also. It would be great to size one up before I order anything(probably your thoughts as well)

Thanks.

Jim

Heck Jim, you're welcome to more than check it out, you can even "try out" the installation process with me ;)

I replaced my head a few years ago. It wasn't that bad.

I'll give you hand, no problem!

that'd be sweet, it'd give me some motivation to actually do it... i'll feed you some beers and maybe if you like it enough that you decide to do it too, then we can do yours soon after... is the 303 still your phone number?

Yes.

Heading south to Wabasha, Red Wing and the Casino this weekend, can't wait.

Well, I just placed the order.

Since I'm switching to freshwater, can anyone shed some light on the best way to decommission the seacock?

Jim, have a good time! I didn't make it past Hudson last year LOL. Let's see if I take a trip or two down to that area this year. I'm at Boomsite by the way, not far from you. I'll give you a call when I receive the Raritan. I'm guessing maybe I'll have it by late next week or next weekend.

Ernesto, the best way to decommission the seacock is to turn it off, then remove the handle so that it can't accidently be opened.

Remove the hose that formerly went to the head.

Then, hang the handle somewhere near the seacock with a electrical wire-tie or something similar, so that if you ever need to open the seacock for some other reason, the handle won't be lost, and it can be opened.

Thanks Vic. Apparently Boatfix already shipped my order. No going back now!

Should the seacock be opened and closed a few times prior to spring launch and after winter haul to keep from freezing shut?

Yes, I neglected to mention that. But keep in mind that if you've removed the connecting hose from the seacock (that goes to the head), you're going to have water coming into the boat when you open the seacock. Maybe put a short length of hose on it, leading to a bucket?

If I were going to permanently remove the hose to the seacock, I'd plug the seacock as well as close the valve.

Wood plug, short length of hose (plugged), pipe cap or plug if threaded, etc. Whatever works.

For some reason I don't trust just a valve unless it's blanked off somehow.
