Headreach Island meet moved -boat ramp question

That (Ward) island looks familiar! I didn't realize the center of the channel back there was as shallow as it looks. I've always stayed close the levee, and will continue to due so after seeing the picture.
 
I know nothing about it, but parking of vehicles and trailers would be a problem unless the land owners give permission. Most levee roads along Delta Islands are private property and land owners have stopped ignoring trespassers. I suggest you find the nearest occupants of the land to find out who needs to give permission. Good luck!

Warren, the ramp is on Empire Island near the end of 8 Mile Rd. It is south of Herman & Helen's Marina near the intersection of Little Potato Slu and the DWC in the vicinity of Marker 6G. Hope that helps. The location of the anchorage is one of the little cuts off of Disappointment Slu and the DWC I think.
 
Sounds like a good description Flutter, thanks. The ramp from the sat photo appears to concrete and a decent size. There is no side-dock for loading, just a ramp. Across the levee road there appears to ba large area for parking trailers. Never been there myself and don't know the area.

I've noticed that ramp in the past and wondered if it is used by the big island (Medford Island) on the other side of the deep water channel with a house on it.
 
T am befuddled. Ligh 6G is on the other side from Little P and DWC< That should be 11R, From memory -- That ramp could be one that was used to barge corn trucks across to another ramp un the levee road from H&H resort and the DWC/ That ramp also wased used by St. Francis YC to transport guests to Tinsley Island across the channel. Google pics are great but nothing beats a chart8 plus a Hal-Schell type map. Lots of luck with the outing (still ca'tpicture the site of the outing). -- Warren

Jim my chart shows this as a ferry ramp. You can't launch boats there if that is the case. I also believe this is all private property. Another issue you may have is if the raft up is too big the sheriff may break you up. You cannot block the passage of vessels. As other have said Mildred would be a better choice for this activity.[
 
Thats interesting info, and sounds like it might be the right answer. That ramp has no dock, which most loading ramps have - I don't have a chart here - is there any indication that it is/was a ferry? The "parking" area looks like a staging area for cars waiting to drive on a ferry...

Keeping a clear passage through that channel is good advice - it is not a dead-end lagoon or such, and a normal passage although I suspect most take the main channel as it is deeper. Never been there myself. I will pass the info on to James and the group.
Anyone know how to get him "approved" to participate here? He said he applied over a week ago, and has not heard anything. He should be on here talking with all you wonderfull people!

Warren, you may be correct about the marker number. I don't have my charts at home. They are on the boat. I was looking at Hal's map I have tacked to the wall in my computer room. Your memory is probably better then my eyes!!!!

Jim, Les is the one who approves new members, usually at 2AM on a Saturday night. It is a lower priority for his time then running the boatfix.com business. He had to go to an approval system to screen out spammers and hackers which were making his life miserable.....
 
I sure appreciate you people helping like this - these guys seem like really nice people and they are biting off a lot for their first floating project! They will get there, with your help!

I am pretty sure that the "ramp" is actually the ferry landing. There is a matching ramp on the island that is to the south-west. I sure wouldn't count on being able to use it and I sure wouldn't leave a car there.

King Island, a legit marina, is just around the corner, a mile or so away.

I would definitely recommend King Island or H&H as launch alternatives. I'm also pretty sure that the "unknown ramp" is a private ferry landing, which isn't usable as a ramp as the surface ends just under the water level--your trailer wheels would drop off and get stuck there.
