Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and I want to introduce myself to other Long Islanders. I own a 2006 Formula 40pc with IPS and I boat out of Al Grover's in Freeport. I've been boating for over 50 years. I boat with my 2 sons and their "significant others." I love boating and I consider it a lifestyle and not a hobby. I truly like my Formula, I consider it an extremely well made boat and no, I do not have an consternation with forward facing props (lol). I have over 500 hours on the boat and (knock wood), I haven't hit anything as of yet (the last couple of sentences have been my attempt at humor).

As most of you are aware, Hurricane Sandy did a "job" on the South Shore. My marina and a great many boats were severely damaged by the storm. I was one of the lucky ones, no damage at all. I am looking forward to getting back in the water and hoping the channels, canals and bays are debris free. I suspect they won't be.

During the summer I usually go East from Freeport, spend some time in Zach's, Great South Bay and occasionally go to lunch on Fire Island. I also take one trip each summer, sometimes East and North and every once and a while, up the Hudson to Kingston.

Welcome to the forum let us know next time you are passing through the Hudson. I too am concerned about the debris field that awaits us in a few weeks. Have a great and safe season!

Welcome Mark. I Joined BE a couple of months ago and I love it. I dock right next to Dave so if you pass by the Hudson stop to say hi. We usually spend the day in Bowline which is right next door to Haverstraw.

Mark,
Welcome to the group ! One the members just purchased an IPS boat . I'm sure he will have lots of questions for you !

Again welcome

Rob

Mark

Welcome. I boat out of Atlantic Yacht Haven right next to you in Freeport. We mostly fish but also go to Zachs and out to Fire Island. Since downsizing, we mostly overnight or spend weekends away. As Rob said, Dave just bought a boat with IPS so brace yourself. Lol

Overall, this is a great forum with a great bunch if people who are willing to offer good advice and a helping hand when needed.

Look forward to seeing you out there.

Mark

Welcome to boatered Mark.

Actually Rob, Mark and I have spoken and the reason he is here.
We both post on volvopentaips.com.
I posted a question and he responded.
When I looked at his profile I was surprised to see he lives in my town!
He had tried to join here before but BE got blocked as spam so he never confirmed.
With some help from Les we got him here and he will be anchored up soon too!

Nice to have a fellow IPS guy in the GSB.

Again welcome Mark, humor is good here. You will see we all go a little crazy in winter!

Dave

Nice to have a fellow IPS guy in the GSB.

Dave......that will give you someone to follow. :)

Welcome to the forum. We're further east, out in Eastport. There have been numerous reports and warning of debris in the waters of the south shore. Because the waters are rather shallow, sunken debris can be a problem for boaters, so please be careful. Due to health reasons, I won't be boating this season so I'm counting the days till launch in April, 2014. Stay safe and have fun, all. Hy

I want to thank all of you for making me feel so at home. I'm so glad it's March. Only 45 days until I start spring commissioning. I know it's nuts, but I visit my boat at least once a month in the winter even though it's wrapped, just to check on it and attempt to visualize its going back into the water.

Mark....welome to the club and the GSB. You will love all the coves and destinations it has to offer. I lived and boated out of Copiague for 16+ years...but recently moved to Florida

Good luck....have fun and enjoy it........

Welcome to BE Mark.

IPS boat are multiplying already! Get ready for an invasion of IPS boats lol

It's not nuts visiting your boat during the winter. You have to let it know that it's not forgotten, that's your love for it is growing even though you can't share any adventures with it at that time. Besides, it makes you feel good. I've been doing the same thing for years and I'm sure others have, as well. Hy

Hey Mark, welcome. We boat out of Massapequa so we are south shore neighbors, kind of! You'll really enjoy this site and having Dave as your intro is a nice way to start it all off. Best of luck for a great season.

Watched the TOB Constable yank stuff out of the mouth of my canal the other day. I fear it is just the beginning. Not good.
