I saw people lining up for gas again tonight.....
 
That's why I bought a natural gas generator! It's not looking good. My power company actually called everyone and gave instruction about what to do in the event of an outage I'm thinking they are expecting issues!

The wind is supposed to shift to NW tonight so I'm thinking we shouldn't have any major flooding issues. Tide is still pretty low now.

I wish I couuld get a whole house natural gas genny.
Natural gas isn't an option for me because there is none in my area.
I did pick up a portable generator since Sandy, and have a 5 gallon jug of gas standing by just in case. If I need more than that and can't get it, I can always siphon it out of one of the cars.

The newer cars are pretty hard to get anything out of.. but the 68 GTO might work OK.. Hopeful you won't need..

We have a little Yamaha (2K) little, but kept us warm and the basement dry in the Sandy aftermath.. quiet & sips little fuel too.. but I'd love to have a natural gas standby... the neighbor has since put in a partial. (10K) Can hardly hear it run at all...

John, Feed us tide reports. I think around 9 is high tonight.
I forgot to have them put plug in my boat, I saw it was out and meant to ask them to put it in!

not sure which is worse.. but can you call someone and have them put it back in for you?? I assume you must have a bit of a drive to get over and check on it for you. - j
 
This storm will not be a tide event. It will be a big blow with snow. Batten down the hatches as they say in the movies.

As far as a generator, I would go for a diesel. You can store diesel, it was available during Sandy, and if they shut the gas off you will still have power. It also can be delivered.

I have never lost natural gas. Diesel you still need to fill unless you get a huge tank.
Best bet is one of these tri-fuel units, but I am gonna go natural gas.
Just gotta find a guy to do it.
I called 3 guys after Sandy and none returned my call!
 
I may be wrong about the tide. In Lindenhurst the tide is at the high tide level and it was low tide at 3:04. It won't be Sandy or Irene but it will be above normal.

Dave, You can back up natural gas with propane. Make sure you ask for the regulator for it, you never know.

I bought a portable Tri-fuel unit I have started it but have not yet tried to run my house off of it. I have been waiting for my electrician to wire my transfer switch but I do have a means to tie it into the house in the event of an emergency. I have a gas grill I installed a second fitting to the line and have a quick connect to plug the genny into. I almost can't wait to try it out.
 
These guys are so full of sh!t.

Newsday: "The first major snowstorm of the season extended its grip across Long Island Friday afternoon with rain turning to snow from north to south and all of Nassau and Suffolk receiving heavy snowfall by midafternoon."

We didn't see flake 1 until about 20 minutes ago. Midafternoon? So far this is a big nothing.
