No posts in a couple of days so I thought I'd freshen things up...

What should we talk about??? How about: are Carver owners more likely to be Democrats or Republicans [:-mischievous] ???

Then again, maybe we should save THAT one for NBR :) !!!!!!

Hope you all are out enjoying your boats!!!

Safe move on your part Pete. No use getting politics into the mix. Must be that Carvers are such great boats...everything is A-OK. I know that I've gained some knowledge since joining this group.

Got our list of things to take to the boat sitting on the kitchen counter so we don't forget anything when we get home from work tonight. Planning another weekend on the water. No guest this weekend, so we'll do fun things like fueling up, pumping out, scrubbing decks, etc. Still plenty of time to read and swim with my pooch.

Sitting home Pete, with bags & boxes of stuff that needs to go back to the boat after our "incident" Mechanic promised to have repairs completed today, so maybe we'll get on the water this weekend to try out our $4,700 worth of repairs! Going out on the Lake again will be like getting back on the horse for me!

So far my summer has been a challange
Had a major water leak in the closed cooling system starboard engine was late 3 weeks getting in the lake
The mechanic hit the prop on launch and said we must have done it especially when it new last year and we test drove the boat to find a bad vibration after the repairs to the engine
but any way go get another prop to save the hassel and bad feelings
then last week a violent storm roars through the marina we are unprotected from the weather and it damages boats swim platforms on some of the other boats as they hit the dock some people moor to close to the dock. 1 anchor through some elses hull it was not secured in it's holder I guess
Myself I lost my bimini top tore the top to rags
I know that it was on it's last legs anyway so now I got to bite the bullet and dig deep again $15000.00 new top darn this just not stop this season

Ouch Sandy, sorry for the big expense! I know at our marina, people are complaining, if it's not one thing, it's two or three! I think little gremlins sneak in after dark & do all sorts of bad stuff to the boats! With weather limiting our season, every trip out is special, (only when you don't hit something! ;o)

YGTBKM $15,000 for new top? Even for CDN thats crazy.

Sandy $15K is crazy, I agree with Bruce. I got quoted $9K to replace ALL of my canvas AND eisenglass. I opted to just replace the glass with strataglass because the canvas is fine. That cost $4K. I still thought that was expensive!

New owner (2 months) been enjoying the boat and learning from all of you - great forum.

Only major problem so far - just finished replacing the fuel fill hose with my son as they were cracked and leaking slightly - one on each side (2") plus the auxilary/generator tank (1 1/2") - a bear to get to but we got it done and everything is dry and tight.

Thanks

Hello all,
new owner here as well purchased a 1987 2757 Montego and are loving it. The summer was not without excitement. First trip out asked Marina for asst. with launch as first mate was recovering from foot surgery. The marina sent 2 guys to help. While I was gettting gear stowed the "helper" unhooked the winch strap and safety chain from the bow hook.

I was in the boat as we were backing down the ramp when i felt and heard something wasn't right YEP I know owner a "Land Yacht

. It's all good, the marina owner came out and was outstanding in his professionalism and customer service. They took care of everything foatnately only minor fiberglass surface damage and a bent trim tab.
several have told me if I had owned anything other than a Carver damage would have been a lot worse. A statetemant to their construction.
2 weeks later we stay on the boat have a nice breakfast on the deck. Wife goes down to the galley and finds the glass top to the stove cracked

yup "Break Out Another Thousand"

since then I have learned how to operate in a number of conditions and feel confident I can get in and out with minimul help. We have since been out a number of times and look forward to many more

Wow, a lot of crazy things happening to fellow boaters this year!!! Then again, when is boat ownership not "crazy" to begin with ;)...

My Carver has been sitting at the dock most of the season itself. We've been using it every weekend though, as a floating condo and home base while in Kingston from Fri-Sun. I've been doing some tuneup work on the motors, most notably converting to electronic ignitions, so it really hasn't been ready for prime time yet. But who cares? We've enjoyed being on it just the same. And when we want to go out, there's my little Glastron, which has been a fine boat to take to the beach or do an overnight campout at a nearby park with my son. So we've been busy boating all summer, just not in the usual sense as the big boat sits most of the time at the dock. It has saved us a ton on gas, though!!!

That will all be changing soon - we're planning a 2 week vacation the end of this month, and the big boat will be plying the Hudson River to a few local destinations. We had hoped to do an upstate canal trip this year but that has been postponed for the future...

Hope everything works out for all you folks!!!

Have fun Pete! Boy do I miss the Hudson. Growing up in Sleepy Hollow it was a constant part of the scenery. Also nice that it's a lot cleaner up near you! As for the rest of this summer here on Lake Michigan, the Chicago Air & Water Show is coming up in mid-August So we'll be bringing the boat across the lake for a few days. It's great to be out on the water with F-14's screaming over you!

That sounds really cool, Rich!!! Of course, sadly they won't be F-14s since the Navy has retired them. That was some airplane to watch in flight!!! Regardless, whatever plane they use will make a great show I'm sure!!! I love Lake Michigan. It seems like such a beautiful place, at least during the summer months...

Yeah, it was pretty impressive. And very LOUD! I wonder if they'll have an F-18 instead. The F-14 was still there last year, but I think they retired them soon after the show. This year we get the Thunderbirds instead of the Blue Angels. I've always liked the Blue Angels a bit better, but both are very good. Lake Michigan is a beautiful place to boat; particularly on the Michigan side (though the Chicago skyline is just gorgeous). I'll probably have to manuever my boat with the skill of a Thunderbird pilot given all of the crazies out there that weekend!

Weird summer regarding boating, indeed. Had a boat in the marina stolen last week, and the theif tried to run it under the head dock. Wiped out the fresh water & power lines to same. Fortunately we have folks who live aboard all summer, so authorities were called; culprit apprehended, and repairs underway quickly. Had that not been the case, several boats would have been under battery power, and toll could have been worse. Thief was inhebriated

, and was caught passed out in the boat!

. This is not a usual occurence at the marina.

"This year we get the Thunderbirds instead of the Blue Angels"

Is that because of the air crash earlier this year???

"Fortunately we have folks who live aboard all summer, so authorities were called; culprit apprehended, and repairs underway quickly."

Holy Mackerel! How exactly do you confront a man like that??? "Excuse me sir, are you stealing this boat???" That was a pretty scary incident indeed...

No, they alternate every year. Next year the Thunderbirds will be back.

Not much to report other than FUN and GAS CONSUMPTION this summer. That's where we've been - on the water enjoying life.
