Spent a marvelous weekend out on the delta departing out of B&W. We were trolling on the Moke for stripers when something very interesting happened. We were a half a mile south of the Highway 12 bridge there at B&W when I decided to cross the very wide channel to troll the other side. Right in the middle of that wide channel we ran aground. Fortunately I was going slow and quick on the throttle. I couldn't believe it. We were in two feet of water with the bottom clearly visable. That hogback or shallow area ran for a great distance south and I had to cross it several times very carefully. It was obviously low tide but it was very dangerous. I am not sure it was marked on the charts, I forgot to check. But the whole weekend boats of all sizes were speeding through and across that channel maybe unaware of how shallow it was. You learn something everyday. I will take a good depthfinder on the delta anyday over a good bottle of whiskey, a cuban cigar or a very amorous ladyfriend.........well maybe not.
