Hogan has landed!!

HfH (Hoosiers for Hogan)

Expecting full report when you're home.

Mike called me about 2 hours ago. They couldn't find a slip in Manasquan/Point Pleaseant either the marina's were closed or full. It has not been a good day for boating in South Jersey. We have light rain tonight and fairly good Southerly winds now. Mike is ok as I said earlier the Jersey ICW is in really bad shape he couldn't believe how narrow and shallow it was below Barnegat Bay. Even in Barnegat Bay where he could get up on plane they were taking beam seas and getting wet. It's a poor excuse but leaving 1.5 hours from low tide wasn't the greatest move on my part. We didn't see a single large boat (over 25') in Little Egg and on the ICW everyone stayed tied up.
Bill

I'm sorry to hear of the rough start to the trip, I hope the rest is uneventful but enjoyable. If you can I would avoid returning to your marina at low tide as well until you have a chance to test things out.

If you are returning around Noon you might have a little trouble.

I was working around my yard all afternoon yesterday....cleaning out the garage, building a shed, etc, etc....and I didn't have access to the internet, but I had my cell phone by my side all day. When I didn't get a call, I just assumed that the ocean wasn't that bad and that they went outside. I had my handheld scanning and I didn't hear anything there either. About 3:45 Mike called my cell and let me know that he was running slow in the ICW. Unfortunately, I was leaving in 10 minutes to go to a wedding and I couldn't go out in my boat then to meet him ....I offered that he could still tie up at my dock...a neighbor would have helped him in....but he wanted to get as far north as possible.

Mike...If you don't think you can outside today, and want/need to leave the boat in Jersey till next weekend, you're not that far from my house. Mantoloking is about 1/2 north....I can meet you in my boat and guide you back south a bit...let me know.

I'm listening to another sailboat they are trying to unground in our inlet right now. Never a dull moment in Little Egg Inlet especially when it isn't high tide. I haven't heard from Hogan (Mike) today but I think things have calmed down North of us which means he should be on the outside he is determined to get that boat home.

Bill

Tried to get out of the inlet, went about a 1/2 mile and had waves coming over the bow, so went back in. Tied up at Hoffman's marina right now seeing what's going to happen with the seas.

Wow! Never a dull moment boating out of Tuckerton!
Place is jinxed!

He is up in Barnegat inlet probably really glad to get out of Tuckerton yesterday. This weekend's weather is really not helping. Mike I will send you the pictures I took of your new boat when we turned around on the ICW. They don't call the ICW the "ditch" for no reason down here.
Hogan's got one of my spare EPIRBS if he really gets in a jam. I just don't see him doing that. I have all his vesell and contact information because I would get the call if it went off. I know your not supposed to lend them out but who cares if it were to save someone or their family.
Bill

I borrowed 2 for my trip.
One the first time and another one the second time.
Smart to have just in case.

So is he not making it home today?

We were over on Fire Island and it was calm water but rainy and limited vis on the way home.

Hogan 6 is now back in her new marina.

We gave them a small welcoming flotilla about 10 miles or so from home and escorted them in.

BTW - there was an incredible moon out tonight!

It sounds like it was a real SHAKE down cruise. It's good to hear everyone is safe.

Thats what I was worried about I'm sure I'll hear from Mike when he gets a break. He must be tired it really wasn't a good weather event but it sure could have been a better start.
