Hogan has landed!!

Good point Walt. Even in calm water if people are moving around on the boat it drives me nuts since they cannot always be seen. In an express it's less of an issue but on a M/Y or convertible there are tons of blind spots people can disappear into.

The dog was fine, she sat on the port seat right next to my wife the whole ride. She is "mommy's girl" so as long as mommy was aboard, Kimmi was happy.

I also must thank dominic for spending time on the phone with me and giving me advice for transiting Barnaget Bay.

In the ocean, we were taking it on the starboard aft quarter, then it just pretty much flattened out. We did have the tail end of the incoming tide up the Hudson.

this is an outstanding thread, enjoyed the read.
glad it turned out well, congrads on a super boat.

Thanks for the input Mike. I like to verify the data weather sites put out w/regard to wave direction and height. While we never know when the forcaster (programs) had a bad day, at least we can get a sense of how they do. The predicted it would lay down pretty much as you experienced. It would be great to have a canal up to the Shrewsbury!

Tanq, pix in ATC.

Dan, the trip from Tuckerton to Manasquan was much more stressful and difficult than the leg in the ocean. The ICW is narrow, shallow and you have to be very aware of where the next marker is, go a couple of feet outside of the 7' channel and you're aground.

My wife could not understand why I was so exhausted after a day in the ICW.

I can believe that having run most of that trip. It's even worse South of Atlantic City. Running gear at your new boat's level is a "tad" more expensive and it tends to weigh on the captain (owner)!

Mike,
Why did you run the ICW? Was the ocean that bad that day?
When I did it I marked a route in the ICW, but I really did not want to go in there as it seemed way too skinny and I decided that I would rather take my chances in ocean. Other than fog around ambrose, the ocean was not bad for me.

When I got towed into Barnegat Bay I was shockde at how the buoys did not show on my chart. Thats because they move them so much. I had a brand new chip and they were not there.

Glad your home and all ran good and all is safe!

I hope HOGAN VI has better weather mojo for the 2010 season!!! We all need some clear weekends after this summer!!!

Mike;

Happy to hear the trip turned out alright. I understand fully what you mean about the stress level. It makes for a very uncomfortable trip.

You may have already mentioned this and I missed it, but I'm curious why you did'nt have the boat transporter bring you all the way up to Pennybridge. We had ours shipped last week, and it left Haverstaw at 9:00 AM on Tuesday and arrived in Myrtle Beach at 3:00 PM on Wednesday. The biggest stress was watching it being lifted by forklift off of the lowboy.

Truckers don't like bringing things like that to the metro area. Too many bridges and other restrictions. I bet Mike saved a ton of money by having it delivered to South Jersey.

Yes, it would have cost alot more - IF the truckers would even have taken it there. With the wide load, special permits are required and NY is a pain in the butt.

I must give props to C-Line Trucking, who picked up the boat when they said they would, and dropped it off right on schedule and with no hassles or extra costs. The owner and the driver were both in contact with me the entire trip.

I looked all the way back to Sept. 1st and can't find any.
Guess I'd better make an Optometrist appointment later today.

I forget to add Pete, there is a big difference in requirements to ship a 31' vs a 44'

Esp when the 44 has a 48' LOA and a 15' beam!

I remember a 40 something aft cabin that was in the Haverstraw parking lot for weeks 2 winters ago. They wound up putting it back in the water and another Captain and I brought it down to Point Pleasant because they could not get the boat thru the streets of Haverstraw! The bad news was it needed to be transported in Febuary, BUUUUURRRRRRR.

When I was looking at this it was $7K to NY and $4500 to NJ.
Coming thru NYC and down the LIE is a bitch!
They need a police escort and can only do it from midnite to 4am!

I had a similar experience. It was $800 dollars more to bring my boat from Atlantic Highlands, NJ to Stony Point, NY. Fuel cost to bring it by water was <$180, plus it was a nice ride. Most truckers I spoke with cried about the rules and permits in NY.

Welcome Home!

If I may ask, why Tuckerton?

It seems from yours and Dave's experience, the place is difficult to get out of with the closest inlets tricky at best.

I had not choice, the dealer who did my deal for me was located there.
If I had it to do over again, I would never of dealt with a out of state dealer.

When I was looking to ship a boat from Florida, I was actually looking at Brick, NJ.
Its gotta be before the metro area and they have to obviuosuly have a launch
