Vic, I THINK I want to add a hold-n-treat to my vacuflush system. I remember when they first came out, it sounded like a good idea. I like the idea of being able to use a holding tank in a marina, even if legal to dump there and then run the system either at night or away from the marina. So, now they have been in the field for a little while, here are the questions:

1.) Would this be the best treatment system for a vacuflush? What else should I look at?

2.) What has been the field history of these things? Are they working as intended? Are there unforseen niggles that I should think about?

I'm not Vic but I will give you my opinion on the Hold-N-Treat system. It really doesn't matter which head you use but I prefer fresh water heads. I had a VacuFlush but got rid of it getting another newer freshwater head. Back to the Hold-N-Treat we have installed it before launching early April this year. I recommend using the Hold-N-Treat with a PuraSan it draws considerably less current than the H-N-T LectraSan. I draw less than 10 amps while it is cycling. I did have a problem but it was due to my existing holding tank's location and the PuraSan. The H-N-T is only a timing and cycling device for the PuraSan or LectraSan. Either is used as the treatment "plant" and cycled by the Hold-N-Treat. I had a strange siphon where when my tank would reach a certain level the PuraSan would drain back into my holding tank. I took care of it with a Jabsco one way valve a better solution might be a vacumm break loop, time will tell. This was not the H-N-T or PuraSan's problem but mine not understanding basic physics. After that was fixed I haven't had an issue. Even with that problem everything worked I just couldn't get my holding tank below 2/3rds full. I can only get rid of waste 2 ways at a pump out or through the PuraSan controlled by the Hold-N-Treat. One more thing they make a complete Hold-N-Treat system using PuraSan or LectraSan since you are using a freshwater head(VacuFlush)I would recommend the PuraSan as the treatment "plant". It uses Clorine type special cartriges. The LectraSan needs a salt tank with a freshwater head. I elected to use my newly installed 36 gallon poly holding tank (installed 4 seasons ago) over the all in one unit. Yzer has been using a PuraSan for years I hope he comes on and comments about his experiance with it, he loves it. We have 4 other boats in my marina that use either and they have had them for years, properly cleaned and drained is important if the boat is in a cold climate where freezing can occur also with the LectraSan it is real important that the salt level be proper. I am the only one in the marina with a Hold-N-Treat and PuraSan the other boats use straight LectraSans and or PuraSan. Take care. Bill

Thanks much Bill. I will probably go with the all-in-one unit, since I will not be electing to keep an existing holding tank. I'm replacing a very very old Mansfield TDX based treatment system. True to form, it finally started acting up this weekend. Must have gotten wind that I was shopping its replacement. I'll spare the details, but lets say that its number on the priority list just got icremented to #1.

I'll look into the Pursan since I will continue to be freshwater system. I assume the 2/3rds problem is less risk in buying the "package", but that's exactly the kind of feedback i was looking for. I held off on getting one when they first came out until they had at least a little bit of a track record.

Given other threads were responded to here , I am very leery that something may be amiss with the overall system package. I hope they are not having problems with them. Would be great to get a little more feedback. I know few folks use these things. They are either stupidly illegal in NDZ's, or in fact lets be honest most folks would rather just use a macerator.

Was about to order one, now I can't figure out if I need just the hold n trea pursan, or the hold n treat with the pressure switch. Actually not even sure that the pressure switch one at boatfix IS a pursan or not.

Hmmmmm......

You'll want the #21SP1512 - its the complete Hold N Treat System, including the Purasan - all wired up and ready to be plumbed.
