During the middle of the seaon I fount the thredding of my holding tank for the vent line fitting stripped. Ith just starts to tighten when it suddenly gets lose. I was able to temporarily fixss the with som silicone but any suggestions on a way to re tap this. can I just use a mettal fiting if so I am thinging the metal fitting will just cut new threds?

Thanks

It is a corrosive environment; a steel fitting will rust ( I think ). I would suggest a different solution.

have you tried teflon tape after rethreading?

You might try just the teflon tape; it may make enough of a difference that the existing threads will hold.

I'm guessing you have a plastic tank. If you screw in a fitting too tight you can split the tank at the fitting, making your problem worse. If the above fails I'd rethread it with a proper pipe tap and then install a new plastic fitting with teflon tape; and none too tight or you could be back to square one.

I'm with Willie; what're the tank and the fittings made of? If they are plastic, there are a couple of different possibilities.

drill it out to accept the next size up pipe thread and tap it. Then use a plastic bushing to bring down the thread size.
