I'll be in Miami Beach all next week. I'm checking out Marina's some of which were recommended by you, thanks! Any last minute candidates to check out? Access to the airport and safety (nice surrounding location) is very important. Here's my four in order but I will Turnberry rates turned out to be very, very attractive...need to see the marina next.

- Palm Harbor Marina West Palm Beach
- Turnberry Isle in Aventura
- Loggerhead Club and Marina South Lantana
- Marina Bay Fort Lauderdale
- Bahi Mar -- no way, monthly rates are off the charts but this is a nice place :)

I have used all of the above except Palm Harbor and Bahia Mar. Also take a look at some of the marinas in Dania up the canal like Royale Palm. Very handy to the airport and the inlet. In West Palm. check out the two Loggerhead facilities and definitely Old Port Cove if you are playing in the Turnberry league, very deluxe mega yachty place.

Turnberry used to be extremely expensive; what rate did you get? We stayed there for a month in 07-08. No deals being made in08-09 either. Outstanding dock staff (see if Oscar and Louis are still there), excellent full length fixed docks that run down BOTH sides of your boat. A nice walking area and not that bad a walk even over to the Aventura Mall. The things I didn't like about it besides the hideous expense, are a very noisy air conditioning system on an adjoining office building, and noise from honking cars. They are liberal about who can work on your boat, and have a used oil dispensary on site. Most of the boats are absentee owners, captain or yacht service maintained. Very good security. My wife liked it there a lot mostly because the dock crew were almost like butlers and really looked after her when I was away.

We spent 4 months at Loggerhead Hollywood in 08-09. There is another RO there now, who says the staff has changed. Good, the staff and dock master were the weak links there. The docks have very short finger piers, we needed to be on the seawall or T-Head. Other than that, it was delightful. It is in a high security, beautifully maintained residential development, and includes a fantastic pool and work out gym/spa. There were more live board snow birds and a great social scene, which was completely lacking at Turnberry. The location is excellent for shopping and beach access. One side benefit of Loggerhead which we took advantage of was if you have a lease at one of their marinas, you get free transient stays at their others. We used their facilities at Daytona, Vero Beach and Lantana on our way down. All in all, an excellent choice. They were overly stringent about work and workers o the boat though.

Marina Bay is way up the New River just west of 95. Excellent new docks and dock staff, nice pool and community rooms. The issue is, if you want to use the big boat, you are going all the way down the river to get out. So it tends to be a "storage" marina. If you don't mind funky and no dock staff, next door is the greatness of Yacht Haven. The anti-Turnberry if you will. Like being in old Florida somewhere, "rustic" to say the least. We have come to love it and made great friends with the Rv'ers there. Definitely not a place where anybody is putting on any airs. We make a point of staying there at least a few weeks when we are down south. Exploring the new River and environs in our Whaler is a lot of fun, and so is the adventure of taking the big boat up and down river once you get the hang of it. Nothing quite like it in the USA.

George, good to hear from you!

Turnberry advertised "special rates" for 55' and under so I inquired. The monthly lease rate is .98/foot/day which is better than all the rest accept Loggerhead.

I put Loggerhead Hollywood on the list! Thanks.

Royal Palm?? here? http://royalepalm.com/index.php

"Playing in the Turnberry league.." Bahi Mar is like $3900 a month for 50'!! I'm not spending that kind of money. Marina Bay is 2475, Palm Harbor is 2125, Turnberry is 1470 and loggerhead is 925 so, yeah!, I like the Turnberry rate alot!! Especially if its nice but I think your description gives me a better idea of what I'm going to find...excellent service and facilities but no real people to be neighbors with. We like getting to know people on the dock, making friends and doing stuff, so, I'll have to see what its like but your input is really helpful.

By the way, you penciled me into your calendar to crew October 2011 right? :) I'm pretty close to committing to this trip (RI-FL) but I will definately need an experienced crew member.

Thanks again for the great information, I will be at Turnberry tomorrow and several othe places on Tuesday.

Has Turnberry been kept up? It was the relatively new and considered the nines when I was stationed in USS Boone (FFG-28) from 85-87.

If this is the cheapest place sounds like a deal to me http://turnberryislemarina.com/index.html

When I was a teenager my father and his former business partner used to send a boat from Haverstraw, NY (Hudson River) down to Bahia Mar for the winter we would spend a least a week and a few weekends during the winter this was an incredible place at least what I remember it has been a long time. Based on the price listed above it had better still be.

Well we're 60+LOA so maybe they see us coming, but Turnberry was 50+ a foot a month in season two years ago, We paid around 26 at Loggerhead for a 3 or 4 month deal. the dock situation at Turnberry is as good as it gets for fixed piers, nice concrete ones that run full length down both sides of the slip. Loggerhead is just the opposite, very short fingers, so for our configuration, wherein power and water hook ups come in forward, only the bulkhead or a T head really worked. Living aboard, the pump out at the slip feature at Loggerhead was very nice.

I visited my top three picks and they're all nice in their own way. It's priceless to actually see the facility, surrounding area and talk with the dock master or representative. I'm glad I was thinking of living at more than one because there are pro's and con's to all of them.
Maybe I should ditch Florida all together and live here: www.grandbahamayc.com as they charge .50/foot/day!!! just kidding, but, maybe I stay there for a month...need to find out about the airport situation. Anyone ever stay there?

Just returned from a visit to GBYC. Not to shabby place.
Stayed in a condo. Staff and marina personnel super.
View of docks from third floor and pool area.
