Hi all:
I am thinking about getting a honda EU 2000i generator. Does anyone have any input?

Not sure what you want to know?
I keep it where the cockpit cooler would go when it is not in use. When using it I place it on the swim platform and secure it to the rail above the aft bench seat with bungee cords. I had to by a kit from pro safe so the alarm would not continually beep (open ground). It can run the A/C without a problem as well as everything else just not at the same time. It was a good alternative since I was stupid enough not to have the dealer install a generator when I bought the boat.
It is light as generators go but when the only spot I can get is the last one in the parking lot it gets heavy fast. In addition to the two carbon monoxide detectors that came built into the boat I also have a battery operated one. I still do not feel comfortable sleeping with it running. Many post about this on this forum. Hope this helps, any specific questions let me know.

Iwent with the 3K its great plugs right in with my shorepower plug, and remote start. Plenty of power all night for everything on boat. 54 db of noise!

If you have enough space in the engine room and your wallet, you are better off getting a marine generator installed. If not, the 2k runs our A/C and microwave with no problem. A/C, microwave and hot water heater is not going to happen. There are power managemant issues, to contend with, but that is true of all smaller generators.

Do NOT buy the extended run kit. It is a $100 dollar option that can be put together for 40 bucks easy with parts from a hardware store. DO get an extra gas cap. You will need it for the extended run feature. That's only 12 dollars. You can also tap into the line from your tank to your engine and get all the running you want with no additional space taken up.

I was just looking at the owners manual (online)for the EU2000i Gen. It mentions a seperate ground connection. Is it necessary to attach this or can you simply use a converter plug from 15A to the 30amp twist lock marine plug?

Thanks for all the input.

I have a 2000i for my boat. I have run the microwave without any issues. I keep mine on the swim platform on a floormat from the car. I don't even bother to bungee it down, but most of the time I am in a calm cove.

I do have the issue with the Pro Safe alarm continuoulsy beeping when I have it on.

Sandy - what kind of kit did you buy? I've tried everything on my own to no avail to get that beeping to stop.

I bought it directly from Pro Safe. It is a simple plug in connection behind the monitor panel. After it goes through it’s normal checks you hold down the test button for ten seconds so the beeping will stop. I think it was twenty bucks.

not sure how a portable genset question from a Sea Ray owner ends up in the Regal forum :-)

if you use one, be very careful about CO. make sure it's on the swimplatform, dont' use it when on a stern anchor where a slight breeze coudl bring CO back inside and make sure you have TWO co detectors.

the hondas are advertised as ultra quite which they are not once they're under load... be considerate to others, under load they are pretty noisy and annoyingly so... something about the type of noise.

You mean this isn't the Sea Ray site

. Just kidding. I was actually a Regal owner until this spring when I bought a 06 Sea Ray Sundancer. I had been on the Regal site for a couple of years and found that there were a good bunch of people on the site. So even though I have a Sea Ray I am still here(even though here is not the original regal site). I thought they might make me walk the plank LOL when I said I had bought a Sea Ray. Hmmm that is a strange looking regal you have there too. As for the Gen. I really do not what to run it when I am not paying close attention to it. It's more for piece of mind while at anchor so I know I can get going in the morning if the Bat. runs low.

Pascal

Us Regal owners look after our own even when they stray. We figure they will come back into the fold eventually! ;)

look, he's rubbing it even more with a DOUBLE sea ray signature :-)

I just plug mine into shore power, you can use a 15 to 30 adapter. If you get wrong polarity light don't worry it because its inverted power.

I use my Honda 2000 genny all the time. Just like CaptGoerge(strange spelling) said, just plug it into shore power and it should work great. If my AC is running full blast, the genny will not operate the AC and the microwave at the same time.

Hey Neal you finally found us! Sorry about the strange name spelling while at sea of the coast Berstrailia I had to change the fluxgate tuner pinion on the Satcom. Well I put the wrong green wire on the yellow wire with the red strip and it made the o and e reverse. Glad to see ya here!

What model regal do you have as the idea of carrying the genny in the place of the little cooler sounds like a grat spot!
You can stow the cooler anywhere while under power much easier than a genny.
how many BTU A/C do you run with it.
I am looking into getting installed A/C as of now I have a carry cool model .
Any info you can provide would be helpful.
Thanks

pascal makes a point about avoiding CO, more important than orientation of the boat/generator is having a fully functioning CO detector on board at all times. CO can find its way into the cabin regardless of the wind direction. i can live with the occasional smell of the holding tank wafting in to the cabin, but CO is a whole lot more deadly.

Well I bought one:
I found they were much cheaper in the U.S.. Here they were selling for between $1550.00 to $1750.00 CAD. In the U.S. I could get one for $995.00 USD. After the N.Y sales tax thet ame to 1082.06. Then I had to pay sales tax when I bought it into Canada of 14%. This brought my total to around $1300.00 CAD. If I had bought it here at $1550.00 After tax it would have cost 1767.00. A savings of $467.00. Yep it was definatly worth the trip to Buffalo.
