hot water heater

No details, no ideas...

Please, there are many who would like very much to help with this issue, but without basic info, there simply is no way to help out.

Make, model, engine heated or elec? What have you checked?

Provide a few details, and I am sure someone here can get you pointed in the right direction.

If it is electric, it's one of two things - blown fuse or blown heater coil. either one is a cheap and easy fix.

PS - why do you want to heat hot water????[:-eyebrows]

Just one question, if it is a hot water heater, why would it make hot water. I believe you have a broken water heater. Most likely the element is fried. By any chance was the water heater turned on with no water in it. If so it only takes a couple of seconds to burn out the element. Most of them are not hard to replace.

Drain the water out, remove the element and find a match, if you know the make and model you should be able to find a replacement, if not take the old one to your local plumbing supply house. They may be able to match it up for you.

Take off the heater element cover box. There may be a red button that is (I believe) an over heat prevention switch. If it is popped out, reset it by pushing it in. This happened on my Regal quite frequently. I ended up drilling a small hole in my cover and keeping a small plastic rod taped to the heater hose to use as a reset.

If this is not the case, as said above, a replacement element and t'stat are available at any local plumbing supply house.

You can get the element at HD or Lowes

Also, Make sure you get the correct voltage. It'll be marked on the package. The 120 and 220 volt look very much alike.
