Lots of things going on at home so it had been a while since I went to the boat. Opened the door and phew what a stink. The refridgerator quit and I had an open bag of bait in the freezer. Boat is 34' Tollycraft tricabin with the fridge mounted in a surround on the portside rear bulkhead. I can see the four bolts holding it to the floor. The front two I can access. Not sure how to get the rears out. So I have 3 problems. First the stink, second, the removal, and third, the repair or replace. Looks to be a vintage Norcold unit.

OUCH!!!

I've had bait go bad in a bucket before and I just threw away the bucket. I can't imagine how it must smell inside a boat! Yikes!!!

I'd start by removing the doors (of course after you remove the bait and thoroughly clean it out). It's two-fold. It will help disperse the smell and it will lighten the load for removal.

Of course you could just keep it closed in an attempt to curb the smell while you are removing it. If that helps...

Can you access the two rear bolts from the sides? Sometimes there are access holes in cabinets on each side of the unit. Maybe a panel is removeable?

What is on the other side of the rear bulkhead? A closet or other form of storage? Maybe there is another removeable panel back there?

Sometimes I think the boat designers think us buyers all have skinny, six foot long arms!

Thankfully, the only interior appliance that I have had to replace in all of the cruisers that I have owned was a microwave.

Best of luck with the project. And the stink!

For the stink I highly recommend using Fabreze----lots of Fabreze! Spray it in the air; spray it on all the surfaces, especially all fabric surfaces. If you have bedding on board, take it home to be laundered and spray the mattresses with lots of Fabreze. Then if the weather permits, put the mattresses out in the sun to air, one each side.

That stuff works wonders on all kinds of really bad odors! When you leave the boat, just before closing her up, spray some more Fabreze. If the odor is there upon your return, you've missed treating an area with the Fabreze.

As far as removing the fridg.... I haven't a clue! Good luck with your project.

Raritan KO in a spray bottle... ( Yes. The holding tank stuff )

Spray, let dry. Then rinse.

I plan to go back down on Wednesday. I plan to look under the floor in the engine compartment to see if there are nuts on the bolts. I can't imagine they would just screw the fridge into the wooden floor. I'll take baking soda and Fabreze.

The old one is out and a new to me one is in. Just need to rebuild the cabinet around the new one and put back in place.

Good news!!! How was the stink? Did that get resolved too?

I won't know until I go back down there. I Fabrezed the heck out of it.

I would like to give a shout out to Kirk Kenner at Delta Refridgeration. He was very fair with the repair.
