How long should engine mounts on 450 hp Cummings diesels last? I recently hired a Cummings licensed repair company to check out some electrical problems I was having.

They came back telling me that all eight engine mounts needed to be replaced at well over $2,000. Had they told me one or two were bad, I mights have believed them, but all eight on both engines? My boat is only 2 1/2 years old, has about 380 hours on the engines and I experience no unusual vibration.

Being a little skeptical, I had the Cummings dealership itself check it out. Result? Nothing wrong with the engine mounts.

They certainly should last more than 2.5 years. Did they tell you why they need replacement? Unless there is in reasonably articulate reason, I would call BS. Good luck.

IMO they should last forever unless there is some other problem causing failure. Mine are 10 years old and I see no deterioration. Do yours have the big 1" or so bolts??

PS some boat makers supply their own mounts and dont use the ones Cummins recommend.

I believe this is a case of potential fraud. Contact the factory and get their opinion.
A worthwhile use of some telephone service.

Looks like you where being taken advantage of. I belive its called theft by disception.
