How tight should the belts be on my 3.0?

Then I probably have them too tight...it seems to be the alternator belt, but it was not squealing before I removed and replaced it during the water pump replacement.

So, 1/2 inch or so of deflection, thanks!
 
Typically, 1/2 inch play in the belt is considered the norm. I would first determine which belt is squealing and go from there. Alternator belts will squeal if the demand exceeds the normal output of the alternator at start up in which case I would make sure your batteries are up to snuff and the charger is working correctly.
