We're new to having a slipped boat this upcoming season. We're moving up from a Hi-n-Dry stored bowrider to our new to us Cruisers 3372 slipped on the Sassafras River. Last weekend I prepared/painted the bottom with Pettit Hydrocoat. I cleaned/sprayed the tabs with Interlux 33 antifoul. I also cleaned the props and rudders. My question: do I need to do anything to the rudders and props (paint, etc.)?

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Same Interlux paint I used on my aluminum tabs or something different?

I use Trilux Prop and Drive spray

PropSpeed is the absolute best product you can use on your running gear.

It's a tedious and unforgiving process, if you do it right, it's great - if you do it wrong, you've wasted your money.

Everything I have read agrees that prop speed is the best you can buy. The PO of my boat used Pettit Zinc Coat Barnacle Barrier and when I hauled the boat last October, I was very pleased as to the lack of growth on the running gear.
What I saw was a lot less than I expected. I will continue to use it.

3 yrs ago Barn. Barrier and 60% satisfied. 2 yrs ago did Prop Speed, and after 2 yrs in water, was 90% satisfied. As mentioned above, has to applied correctly, and if you have it done,,I dogged the guy so he did it right. Many will put on first coat and go to lunch, and they miss the time frame for the second. We are in Annap. and your water up there is a little better, so the Barrier, might be a good easy choice.

Considering the difference in price and ease of application, the Pettit is hard to beat.

Beyond sanding the rudders and props, what else must be done before spraying the Pettit Zinc (primer, etc.)?

2 yrs ago I used propspeed and after one season it needed another application. I had it done professionally and made sure it was done correctly. Last yr. I used a similar product called hawkspeed. Again, had it done professionally and made sure it was applied as designed.
I would never use either of them again. The cost is prohibitive and the results are no better than a paint application. I use my boat at least 2 times per week and should not have had a problem. This yr. the drives will be prepared properly and i will have a paint.

Where my boat is stored it is inside and next to a couple other boats with the same drive system i have and mine has the hawkspeed (very expensive) and the others are coated with a paint. Mine needs far more attention then the others and the cost is about 20% of the cost to apply another coat of propspeed.

Alluminum trim tabs? are you sure they are not stainless steel?
