Has anyone removed the outside shore water connection on your 1980's vintage Carver? I have an '86 3297 Mariner. I want to install an new battery charger and remote panel.

My plan is to install the remote panel on the port side aft wall above the salon table seating. Problem is I need to run the cable back to the battery charger in the engine compartment. So, after looking at things, I notice that on the outside of the wall behind the ladder to the top deck there is a panel where the shore water connects to. My thinking is to remove that so I can feed the remote panel cable through into the side of the engine compartment. But, as I look at it, curious to know how to detach the shore water connection. Or, maybe I don't need to disconnect it and it will leave me room to get in there.

Any help would be appreciated. When I crawl into the engine compartment I can't see if there is a way to run the cable straight down. I can feel that it seems to be sealed off, but I am wondering of the side it open along the port wall somewhere that I could feed the cable down to.

Craig...when I installed a battery charger in my '86 Mariner, I tapped into the 120 volt outlet on the port inside wall for power to the charger which I installed on the transom. There is a 1-2 inch gap between the exterior glass and the interior wall to run cable/wires. I didn't have the water connection on my boat, but if you look up from underneath, you should be able to see the gap, and the 120 volt cable to the plug outlet.

I figured it out. Took me some time, but got the cable through. Ended up removing the "port hole" where the shor water feed when through and then I could stick my hand in there to feel for way through. Ended going to a small hole in the insulation and down the inside of the side wall of of the engine compartment right above the port gas tank.

I already have a 120 volt hooked up to the current charger, so good there. So far this is working out better than I thought!
