How to tell when your holding tank is full?

This isn't the first time this has been posted, but this is what I built to empty the holding tank on my trailered boat. Here it empties directly into the sewer, but at my former house, it emptied into a 15 gallon plastic container which I took into the house with a hand truck and emptied into the toilet.
You could mount the tank on a cart and empty it into the cleanout as long as it's lower than the tank.
I took rawidmin's advice and made my own pump out device from a 12v jabsco mascerator pump and associated fittings.. I pump it into an RV 25 gallon holding tank on wheels and then dump that into our septic system via an outside port. Wife and I seem to be able to do three overnights w/o filling the holding tank.(jabsco raw water electric. approx. 10 gallon holding tank) Our boat is a Glastron GS-259 and it has two lights for holding tank level.. Orange for half full and red plus orange for full.. The lights were wired backwards at the factory and it took us the entire first boating season to figure this out. Red light would come on first and we didn't dare use the head with that light on.. During flushing/cleaning we saw the red light come on but I decided to continue flushing fresh water to see how much more it would actually hold..After another 20 flushes or so the orange light came on too.. LOL. So far the system has been reliable but I don't know how it operates. If it's internal floats? well that's kinda scary.. I to this day thank Rawidman for his handy dandy home made pump out apparatus as we prefer not to wait in line for a pumpout at the marina and have to tip the dockhands. Don't get me wrong, if I were a dockhand I'd want tipped too if I had to do this work, I just prefer doing it myself at home.
