I hope that everyone remembered to take a minute to pay tribute to the veterans that have given their all to allow us the freedom to enjoy a long weekend doing what we like.

We had an interesting weekend at Windmill Cove. I met fellow RO, tecdaddy, and his beautiful girl friend. They were having a few electrical problems on their new boat but seemed to be enjoying the weekend none the less.

Trish and Dave, the owners, did a good job of accommodating large crowds with live music, a volleyball court and plenty of available drinks. However, the weekend took a bad turn for us on Saturday night. We had a large group of our camping friends staying at the marina too. About 11:00pm a couple was returning from the docks and a group of guys made some remark, our friend made a reply and three guys jumped on him. When his wife tried to help him, she got kicked in the head a few times. No one else was in camp so the kids ran up and found us, when we got down there, tempers were hot and a mele ensued.

They arrested the three guys that started the mess and one of them was taught some manners before the authorities got there.

All in all, not what you want to be around with your family and kids, so the next morning we slid out of the marina and joined friends at the bedrooms where the kids could go tubing and wakeboarding and we could enjoy the rest of the weekend in peace.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend too!

I stayed at Spindrift Marina which is the norm for me on the big weekends. The only major holiday weekend we go out for is the Fourth.

I've got a lot of maintenance to do: recoat all exterior varnish and paint as needed but when that's done the boat should be pretty much good to go for the next two years. I ordered five tubes of Sikaflex 291 LOT to seam the cockpit deck. UPS should be leaving that at the front door tomorrow.

Although the boat never left the slip the stars & stripes were out on the transom yesterday. No fighting to report on the docks, although some sparrows were beating each other up for nesting spaces under the shed roof.

Wow, Dave, sounds like an exciting weekend! Although I'm sure you could have done without most of it! Like yzer, we spent the weekend at the marina, although we did move up front to the slip next to Terry to hang out for the weekend. We ate, relaxed, ate some more ... basically did exactly what we wanted to do. What a great weekend!

We spent a glorious long weekend end at Hog Slough. We had around 15 boats (Caliente Isle Yacht Club) rafted together in a nice area protected by trees so the wind wasn't a problem. We ate, had a cocktail or two, read books, went on dinghy rides, talked and laughed a lot.
It really doesn't get much better than that!!

Sounds like most folks had a perfect time. I'm sorry to hear about the problems at Windmill Cove..... I guess the troublemakers who used to go to Lost Isle have a another spot to cause trouble. What a shame!

I was up here in the mountains. I'm working for the US Census and they were pushing to get our assignments done, so I worked long and hard Sat and Sun and was able to kick back on Memorial Day and reflect on the true meaning of the holiday!

I enjoyed being outdoors most of Sat and Sun in beautiful weather!

I spent the weeknd at Tower Park (Duh), and I am sad to report that nothing memorable happen on Memorial Day.
Sorry to hear what happened at Windmill Cove, but remember that all grey clouds have silver linings.
One time I had to break up a fight (domestic) that spilled over into our campsite at Lake Tulloch. One of our guests was my stepson's wimpish 15 yr old saxaphone playing friend John. The boys were frozen in their tracks watching some guy threatening to beat his other with a piece of firewood. Armed with nothing, I walked up to this guy, put my hand on his shoulder, and said "This has to end NOW". The jerk sulked off into the darkness. The very next day, John started lifting weights. These days, John has the title of Cheif Patrol Sargent in front of his name. Everyone in that campsite know why John became a cop. John will just smile and nod.

hey dave! yeah we had a great time with you and the rest of the weekend. that was one crazy night. someone also got alcohol poisoning and was taken away from what i heard.

we saw several other fights break out over the weekend after you left. its a shame that stuff like that has to happen. luckily where we were on the overnight guest dock, none of that stuff spilled over.

we also had a great time with jungle jim. not sure of his RO name. but all in all, it was a blast. thank you for the compliments to my fiance :) she is my angel.

as far as windmill cove. i have to give it a thumbs up. they cant really control who shows up and causes problems, but they sure put on a great weekend. good food. good bands, and dave and trish are excellent hosts. i would highly recommend staying there and we will definately be back!

We cleaned the teak Friday late afternoon and into the early evening so we could oil it in the morning. After we were done with the cleaning Friday evening we drove over to the Spindrift and while walking over my 74 year old mother-in-law was taking a few pictures on the levee road when some young joker was speeding towards her and several others and myself motioned to the driver to slow down. He didn't much and she slipped on the levee getting out of the way. I kicked his car as he went by at about 45MPH then he proceeded to slam on his brakes and started to back up. About then there were about 4 of us who were ready for a confrontation but I guess his girlfriend must have talked some sense into him as he put in drive and got moving in the right direction.

the evening ended well and my mom-in-law was pretty much unscathed. After that we had a nice weekend cruising out with our fellow club members at Delta Marina.

I guess the steroid and silicone crowd had to find a new home after lost isle closed.

I got to crew on the Tahiti Ketch "Briar Rose" for my first time participating in the Master Mariners Annual Regatta, we came in third, I am told there were about a dozen in our class. Captain said we beat his nemesis, so he is elated.

Spent Sat might with the Admiral at Bedroom 1. Had trouble anchoring, so some of the locals bedroom residents (they looked like homesteaders) boarded their dinghies and gave us a hand tying up. We had a great, relaxing night.

Sunday, returned to our slip at Riverboat and the Admiral had to return home. I stayed and tackled my annual engine maintenance: oil and filters; fuel filters; impellers; transmission fluid; belt, bolt and hose tightening. I came home dirty and tired, but felt like I accomplished something. Now I'd ready for the summer!! BRING ON THE HEAT!!

Glad we missed the raucous this year. Maybe next time...

We spent 6 nights on the hook at Horse shoe cove on Old River. LOTS of bugs. (why did I clean the boat???) We went did a visit to Wind Mill on Memorial Day and saw a vary interesting mating going on . Man and woman on the front deck of a large cruiser that had the name "Rose" in it, were doing some nude X rated things on the bow. The Sheriff cruised in and within 30 feet and just left. It when on for 30 min. or so. And NO I ddin't take pics>>
Wind Mill has the best burger around and Trish has done a great job of getting the place in order. Although I do look forward to Lost Isle getting back in business to take back the rb2@gr5t#$%^ crowd.

thats charlie and his wife. we used to see them at lost isle. she was in a lime green "sling shot". they gave everyone in the bar, and the dock a "show". tasteless to say the least. but nice people besides the fact.

Sounds like Windmill Cove needs to change their name to Lost Isle South!

I never had the pleasure (?) of personally meeting this couple, but they sound like the ones that we saw on the bow of a go-fast at L.I. some years back.

Or at least their acts of pleasure sound like them...

There is one member who was going to Sac over the Memorial weekend that we haven't heard from, makes me wonder what his weekend was like.

I am curious also. I've been following the repair threads but not commenting. I hope he has Vessel Assist.

He does have VA. Maybe he is just too busy to get onto BE right now........
