I haven't seen much mention of trips to Block this summer. Had a friend who went out at end of July and said it seemed a little quieter than usual. Said there were several moorings to choose from on Sunday AM when he arrived.

I wasn't planning to go but now it looks like we'll be heading out on this Thursday (weather dependent). Don't like to slip in BI so hoping to snag a mooring Thursday AM. But it's always a little added stress wondering whether you can get one or not.
 
We went out yesterday just for the day and were able to get a slip at Paynes. Mooring field was completely full. This was obviously a big week (VJ Day) and the weather was beautiful.

Beach and town were both pretty packed.

We spent five nights at BIBB in late July. BIBB and Payne's were packed, the other place, not as crowded as I remember. Moorings were all taken.
 
we spent a night there on charter last week of july. Boat basin was full but they had room at Champlins. pretty busy considering it was a week day, some boats were rafted up, there were a few moorings available.
 
We went this weekend, we anchored but I saw some open moorings, there were lots of people everywhere but not what I would call packed.
 
I went out the last day of July, I always go to Paynes and they've always taken care of me....not this time. Even though I called first thing in the morning and told them I would be there I was third boat rafted out and no 50 Amp plug available the first night so I had to run the genny all night...No big deal but the place was absolutely jammed with people everywhere (ballards, in town, around the docks as well as the Oar though we managed to get in for a sunset dinner with 1 hour wait. Despite the rafting which I really don't like at all, we LOVE block!
 
I was there last week it was not as busy as last year but I was there during the week and I was told the weekend was going to be super busy. We had a great time. I'm sure I will return in the future.
 
Well, I was there the Aug 12th to 15th which was a Thursday to Sunday. I would say it was as busy as I've ever seen it except for a 4th of July week. Boat Basin and Paynes were packed. Champlains looked like they could always stuff in another boat or two.

We managed to snag a town mooring on Thursday around 11am by lurking and looking for someone who was getting ready to leave. But we didn't see much turnover until Sunday. Sunday was funny, we were in a literal traffic jam leaving the harbor around 11am. Took almost 45 minutes to get thru the inlet. All in all much busier than when we were in Vineyard Haven earlier in the summer. Town had plenty of people and Cresent Beach was Packed on Friday and Saturday.
 
We were there the week of July 26 and while the weather every day was absolutely perfect, Payne's was never full even on the days when the cruise liner and the day trip boat from Greenport were taking up an entire pier each. Cliff told me that the weather this summer has been the best that he could remember. Block Island is like going home to us. Too much traffic on weekends and too many people in Old Harbor but we still couldn't let a summer pass without visiting.
 
We were at Champlins Weds. the 18th thru Sat. 21st traveling with another boat. They put us on the inside floating dock backed in with a transom tie up. We didn't have any neighbors until Friday. Overall it seemed that they had plenty of empty slips and were not rafted as deep as I have seen it before. The best part was the ride home to Buzzards Bay near the Canal.....almost flat seas and great visibility!

Did you guys leave on Thursday the 12th? When I was coming into the pond I saw a Trojan 44 heading out toward L.I. I said to my wife, that I bet that was one of the B.E. guys. I don't see that boat often but there's a bunch on this board.
 
Going again tomorrow or Saturday for the day. Moorings have been in short supply as would be expected, even on Sunday afertnoon we found ourselves circling around the field to find something. The harbormaster was nice enough to point us to someone she knew was leaving.
