Hudson River Cruise

I make it to Haverstraw in 1:45 doing 26 knots.

I would spend one night in Haverstraw, nothing to see there and they haven't rebuilt the restaurant yet.

Would you ever anchor out for the evening? If so and the winds are not from the north, South Haverstraw Bay on the eastern shore, AKA Croton is a great place to anchor out.
 
According to the marina's website, they have started re-building the restaurant and they hope to open sometime in May.

West Point is a nice day trip from Haverstraw. If you do go to WP, either go a bit further to Newburgh or Cold Spring. Both have nice waterfront areas.
 
According to the Haverstraw Marain the restaurant should be open this summer Keyword - Should.
 
Heading north from Haverstraw you can be at West Point in an hour at a reasonable cruising speed, 1.5 hrs if at hull speed. Newburgh is a nice choice for a lunch stopover, Cold Spring would be nice but access from the water is difficult, IMHO, for a group of boats. Perhaps others will share their opinions on that one...

If you have an extra day, you can continue up through Poughkeepsie and maybe get to the Rondout. It is at least as big a boating "mecca" as Haverstraw is, with more places to eat by far, good freshwater fishing if you're so inclined, places to swim (pools and beaches) and the natives are friendly, except for the cannibals [:-mischievous] ...
 
So long as there is no north wind, anchoring at Croton is great, unfortunately, the past couple of summers, it has always blown out of the north.

If you guys want to consider anchoring, there is always at least a few HRCC boats either in Croton or Bowline - you are welcome to join us.
