Hudson River Trip

Thanks, PeteMrrs, great to be onboard.........john

'Didn't even think about posting a link - thanks, Chris!
Al, I didn't know you were one of us 'Right Siders'! And I'm jealous - we were in Viking for 7 seasons, and I miss the deep water. We do still winter at Viking, just to stay on Fred an Inar's good side . . ..

Welcome aboard!

I also live in Cornwall and boat out of Stony point. What marina are you docked in? Hope to catch up with you on the river.

MJK

Thanks for the welcome MJK . stiny point bay is where i keep the boat i haven't trailered it down there yet , the marina changed hands this year so i don't know if they are gonna change the name. i also have a house in pearl river too, &am between the two alot but mostly in cornwall. look forward to seeing you on the river also, nice hearing from you....john

john - welcome and thanks for the info. we stayed at newburgh last year and liked it. the restaurants were great and my only complaint (aside from there being no pool), was that the bars were a little loud at night. but we really want to stay closer than that becuase it's a bit much travel for the wife in a day (although i'm happy as a clam crusing all day).

FYI: On the Rondout at Kingston, there's a municiple dock where you can tie up for a small fee, have dinner, then afterwards tie up at RYB or another marina for the night. Also a couple of restaurants located right on the creek have docks if you're dining with them.

The restuarants in Kingston are really not that easy to walk to from the marinas and getting a taxi sometimes can be a challenge on busy weekend summer nights. I've often shuttled people on my way out of RYB who were waiting for a taxi for about 45 minutes or more. Weekday nights, it's not so much a problem.

It's really great north of Kingston, but mind your charts!

If you have a dink its not so bad, either. You can run it up and down the creek without fear, regardless of what marina you are staying at. And as BillM says, the locals are usually pretty nice!!!

Just stay away from the guy in the pink leather thong!

As you know we do have one of those at the Anchorage - although I've never taken a ride it it. I just get to change the battery every once in awhile...

I am just glad that the last photo that was posted of you had the jeep in it and not the thong.

Do they still rent out the lighthouse in Kingston. I rented it one weekend, it was a blast.
The keeper comes back in the morning a cooks a huge breakfast.

Saugherties (sp) Lighthouse I believe still rents out its two rooms. We did it several years ago and were the only ones there. Lighthouse keeper said he would stay and cook breakfast for us or he would leave us alone and we could cook breakfast for ourselves. We decided to stay there alone and it was great! He gave us the key to the place and just asked us to lock it up if we left for awhile and when we departed for home. If it is still the way it was when we were there, the lighthouse has only one 15 amp circuit for the whole place so no hairdryers for the admiral or electric coffee makers in the morning. I believe we paid something like $180 for the night. May have gone up.

well, it looks like out plans have come together for a trip in late august. the wife doesn't like to travel too much in a day, so we're going to make it a pretty leisurely trip. we run about 18 mph and have extra time in case the weather turns sour, but assuming smooth sailing, errr cruising, what do you all think of the following itinerary?
